I notice when I replace an 80MHz oscillator with a 66MHz oscillator on a 386 mobo, the CPU speed is reduced from 40MHz to 33MHz. Is this because the mobo's FSB speed is dictated by the oscillator? If that is the case, then when I set a jumper/shunt configuration on a more modern board (such as a …

What do you guys think of a VLB DX-50 system? Would that be worthwhile? I have an SiS 85C471-based VLB mobo that can handle a 50MHz bus speed, and it works with both a VLB video card and VLB I/O controller at that speed too, which I understand is a bit unusual.

What you could try, just to see it working, is to remove the AGP card, and put in any PCI video card in slot #1. I would leave the M3D in slot #2. When I finally got the Apocalypse to work, I had this combo. BTW, I thought that slot #1 shared its resources with the AGP slot.

That's what I thought I heard too! I've heard a GameBlaster "in real life", and it sounds really "clear and clean". I haven't yet heard a SB2 + CMS chips, but I would imagine it sounding different - sort of quieter/softer/filtered. Comparing those 2 recordings posted earlier, I prefer the SB2 + CMS …
