Quick update: I've ordered a 1m cable. Should get it soon. Just want to see if this thing works really! It's a good learning experience. Appreciate all the advice! If I ever do any "serious" networking, I'll ditch the card for something better. Thanks.

To overclock an Intel DX-50 CPU to 60MHz or 66MHz requires the mobo's bus speed to be increased from 50MHz to 60MHz or 66MHz. The SiS chipset does not support these bus speeds, so it's impossible!

I have been reading about network cables. Am I right in thinking that I need a crossover cable, because I am attempting to connect one PC to another PC, and also there is no device that sits in the middle of this type of connection, such as a modem or a router.

I just got my first EGA card, although I haven't actually received it in the post yet. It sounds like one that DonutKing has - that is it's a 16-bit dual output ISA card, with both VGA and EGA connectors. If I use the EGA connector, will it give good CGA compatibility?! 😀

If I were you, I would get the latest stepping possible. Intel initially had problems with the DX-50 overheating and switched to a smaller manufacturing process. You can usually tell what's what by looking at the size of the gold die cover on the bottom of the chip. I can't say I recommend 50MHz …
