Re: What do you think about Steam Deck handheld PC ?

in Milliways
- Lack of dockstation. Switch, laptops and even tablets like Surface have docks where you can drop the thing without having to plug anything. It does have a dock, sold separately. It sounds like you can use any generic USB-C dock too. https://www.steamdeck.com/en/hardware[/quote] a) You have to buy …

Re: What do you think about Steam Deck handheld PC ?

in Milliways
It's hard to imagine it succeeding. I mean, every bit of hardware designed / promoted by valve has been abandoned (except that VR glasses). And please note that I didn't say "discontinued"... Looking at the Steam deck, the biggest drawbacks are: - Price. Although is on par with the Switch, both are …

Re: Ports better than original.

in Milliways
Btw a "port" as I understand it here is "(mostly) the same thing, running on a new (different) platform". I do not feel the same. Maybe because I'm playing games since I had a ZX Spectrum. At that time, "AAA" (that term didn't even exist) games were released on 3 or 4 different platforms at the …

Re: Games & Gamepad problem

A PC gameloft supports 2 devices with 2 axis and 2 buttons each. Most 4 buttons devices "borrowed" the buttons of the second device. So when you press button 3 or 4, you're pressing button 1 or 2 on the secondd gamepad. So don't use button 3 and 4, or change your configuration to 2 axis/2 buttons.

"Almost" clean: - Get a DOS 5.0 OS disk. - FDISK - FORMAT C: /S - Try to update your OS. After FORMAT /S you should have only three files (IO.SYS, MSDOS.SYS, COMMAND.COM) that will be overwritten by your new DOS. (You could try to boot your first floppy of MS-DOS update while pressing SHIFT. It …

Re: Windows 3.x games that don't work in Windows

in Windows
History is judging that so called Win 9x games appear to actually have Win 3.x compatibility. It's the other way. Windows 9x can run (almost) all Windows 3.x software. There are few Windows 9x games than run on Windows 3.1, and that's after installing Win32s and offering a goat as a sacrifice. I …

Re: PCem v17

One stupid Question but is it possible to let the emulator connect to the internet when i installed win 98 se in it. Is there a way to pass throug the Host internet to the emulator. I've never tried it, but you should define a machine with a network card installed, install the proper drivers on …

Re: Some questions I have on Sound Blaster cards...

in Marvin \ Sound
But be careful... my old Sound Blaster AWE64 drivers allowed to use 32 + 32 channels... the first ones used the EMU (and should not take resources) but the other were made via software (my precious CPU cycles!). Do you mean the AWE ran out of memory because the no of channels you used and thus the …

Steam Arma: Cold War Assault (Windows) Arma: Cold War Assault (Mac) It's the first time I've seen a game that has two versions (Windows and Mac/Linux) on sale. Every other developer that support non Windows OSs sells a license that can be used on every OS supported. Not a big deal because that's …

Re: Some questions I have on Sound Blaster cards...

in Marvin \ Sound
- "Wavetable" synthesis: a complete misnomer. This is sample-based (unlike FM synth which actually uses waveforms), so the samples are recordings of instrument sounds. The quality of your sample set largely determines output quality. Some cards use hardware samples (one or more ROM chips with 512kB …

Line Wars 2 with S3 acceleration?

So I was trying some old games and I found Line Wars 2 (previously shareware, now freeware ). It supports a (small) variety of graphics cards, MCGA (Standard VGA), VGA (320x480, mode X), VESA (640x480), S3 (800x600) and ATI Mach 8 (800x600). My Dosbox.conf file include the line machine=svga_s3 so it …

Re: PCem v17

Thanks. PCem started as a "niche" emulator that allowed many people remember the first PCs... a golden age when you everybody tried to make their own PC and didn't use non-descriptive cases. Now, it has surpassed every expectation and fills a very important gap (the Windows 9x era games are being …
