Re: sites you miss

in Milliways
I miss the troubleshooting eight ball found in the site of the creators of Bleem... does anybody knows where can I find one of those?

Re: Things to keep an eye on

What about including Kernelex and the generic usb mass storage drivers for Windows 98? I find that VERY useful... also, there are some generic Bt878 drivers (outdated since they probably won't work in Vista, and analog TV is dying). Some webs... Kernelex - http://www.msfn.org/board/KernelEx-v032a- …

Re: copy protection

in Milliways
Back to topic... historically, I think the first guys that used malware as a mean to control the spread of the copies of their programs (note that I dont say as a mean of copy protection), were these guys.

Re: copy protection

in Milliways
There were various kind of protections. One of my games, Inner Space for Windows 3.x, has an install floppy. When you install it, the game sets a bit on the floppy depending on the c:\ drive serial or so and on the installed exe as well. When you want to install it on another computer you need to …

Re: Quake 1 on XP

in DOS
I think that any opinion is acceptable, but after being explained. The author may be a dick, but I think you'll have to explain why.

Re: Quake 1 on XP

in DOS
Maybe you'll want to try GLQUAKE (probably, you already have that executable). DosFreak's suggestion is a greatly enhaced game engine for quake, but if you want "pure" quake, you must get used to really BIG dots.

Re: Playing lengthy DOS games...

in PC Emulation
Probably, lengthy games have their own save feature. Back in time, people used the save feature included in the games, or finished the games in a shot. Maybe, you would try GW32 (it has a Status save feature), but I don't know if it works inside DOXBox. Or you can try VMWare (can save the status of …

Re: Old DOS application, LPT dongle

in DOS
OK, today I've tried h-a-l's dosbox. No problems. Now I'm awaiting to see if calculations are performed properly (I don't know if the program needs a coprocessor or not). Thanks to DOSBox Team, h-a-l and all of you!

Re: Old DOS application, LPT dongle

in DOS
Tested with ntdelay. Doesn't work. I think userport is only for Windows apps, but I'll try, too. The dongle is gone (at least until next monday), so I won't try nothing until then.

Re: Old DOS application, LPT dongle

in DOS
I'll try DOSBox, but I have a question. Is there any option to ensure that fixed point math and float point math are as accurate as in a real processor? I've read a post about some float point problems, and the program needs to calculate structures.

Re: Old DOS application, LPT dongle

in DOS
Because my boss is a sucker and want to see it working within XP 🙁 Digging in the forum, I've found something about ntdelay... I'll check it on monday. I'll check VMWare with FreeDOS, but I don't know if VMWare would grant direct access to hardware.

Old DOS application, LPT dongle

in DOS
I need to get working an old DOS application in Windows XP. It works (more or less, I've got some problems with graphics mode), but the application needs to find a LPT dongle. The problem is that the application reports that it is unable to connect to dongle. The dongle is a Microphar one (no …

Re: Old Mitsumi cd-rom

in PC Emulation
For the sound part... no (at least in MS-DOS). In Windows, you'll need some drivers. For the IDE bus... in DOS you will need a CD-ROM driver (OAKCDROM, for example) and MSCDEX, as usual (note that your SB16 will probably be configured as 3rd IDE). In Windows, it will be detected automatically.
