thanks so much, it was just one of the problems listed above (I'm not sure which one, since I didn't have it today). Knowing to look for the plus sign cursor helped a lot.

I am trying to play populous 1, and everything seems to work fine, but I can't raise and lower land either with the mouse, with the default keys, or by changing the default keys to something else. I have the same problem on both my mac and my pc. Anyone know what to do about this? thanks!
