O.T.? - Expanded Memory

I realise this is may be considered off-topic but I am curious as to how DOSBox represents Expanded memory (EMS). I use DOSBox to run Javelin, a financial modelling application for which the availability of, and access to, memory significantly impacts the size of model that can be developed i.e. …

Full Screen Issue

A bit puzzled by this one: I can run DOSBox in full screen mode in 'native' XP and on Windows 7. However in Windows 7 XP mode , although the options files are identical in all 3 instances, DOSBox shows up as a small window in the screen - there seems no way to get it to 'fill' the whole screen. Is …

Version 0.74 (Official release) and MB5

Judging by a number of posts here (including my own) the ability to print from DOSBOX seems reasonably common. Are there any plans to merge the MB5 'experimental' printing facilities with an 'official' release? I know the usual response is that DOSBOX is for gamers, and gamers don't need printing …

Re: Printing (sigh!)

It appears that the problem was an unneeded colon. "net use lpt1 \\hp_laptop\hp3100 /persistent:yes" did the trick. I had previously had "net use lpt1: \\hp_laptop\hp3100 /persistent:yes" So this worked for me: (a) installed DOSBOX Megabuild 5 (b) added "parallel1=file dev:LPT1" to the config file …

Re: Printing (sigh!)

Here's what happened. Set up printer share as HP3100 From 'My Computer' -> Properties -> Computer name -> Full computer name: HP_Laptop In CMD window: net use LPT1:\\HP_Laptop\HP3100 /persistent:yes results in: "System error 67 has occurred. The network name cannot be found" Not sure what to do next …

Re: Printing (sigh!)

Thanks. I'm not actually using a network. The printer would be a 'local' printer physically attached to the laptop computer on which I'm running DOSBOX. So I'm not sure how to proceed. Or are we talking about setting the printer as a share? I see I can share the printer a give it a share name. For …

Re: Printing (sigh!)

Thanks for that. What I did was open the Properties for my printer in XP Control Panel. In the Port tab, I enabled Printer Pooling and checked LPT1 (it already had USB Port checked.) I've added 'parallel1=file dev:LPT1' to the config file. When I try and print (via LPT1) from the DOS application I …

Printing (sigh!)

I'm new to DOSBOX but I realise this topic has been raised many times but I've RTFM, searched the forum topics and downloaded DOSBOX Megabuild 5, but I'm still not sure how to set up printing. I'm running DOSBOX on Win XP Pro. The DOS software I'm running has options to print to LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, …

Re: Emulate CONFIG.SYS?

DOSBox has support for ANSI codes built in; it's an "always on" feature that doesn't have to be enabled (or disabled) in the settings. Just set the 4DOS ColorDir environment variable to your taste, and you're good to go. Wunderbar! Many thanks for the clarifications. Is there a document somewhere …

Re: Emulate CONFIG.SYS?

I've been playing around with 4DOS and I want to use the coloured directory listings feature, which requires ANSI.SYS (which I have). I can't load CONFIG.SYS in a XP command window or, as far as I'm aware, in DOSBOX, so I was launching DOSBOX and then starting 4DOS inside DOSBOX. Since DOSBOX can …

Emulate CONFIG.SYS?

I know that AUTOXEC.BAT can be emulated in the [autoexec] section of dosbox.conf, but what about CONFIG.SYS? I want to load ANSI.SYS which would normally require a device=ANSI.SYS line in CONFIG.SYS. Can I do this in DosBox?
