Re: Picking the right soundcards

Makes my head spin when reading through all these threads when trying to figure what is going to work. Don't get too caught up in it. Just play around with cards that seem interesting... you'll run across some that suck, some that sound good, some that sound good but are a pain in the ass to set up …

Re: Picking the right soundcards

The Yamaha card may technically be better in some ways, but the ESS card might be worth a try first. FM sound is pretty subjective, and I personally like the ES1688 sound. It's different from a real OPL3, sure, but different isn't necessarily bad. Another nice thing about the ES1688 is that it's non …

Re: What's this 486 freak show worth?

It looks to me like that cache stick says 'PCChips' up in the top right corner. That doesn't necessarily mean it's for that particular PCChips board, but it's possible it's just a different version of the M919 cache module... Re: Fujitsu FKB4700

Can you tell what's wrong with the bad keys? Like, is the rubber piece degraded, or has the spring lost its... spring...ness? It could just need a clean and lube... I've had some heavily-used "true" mechanical keyboards that felt like crap until I took apart the switches and hit 'em with some …

Re: Suggestions for inductors

I'm guessing you're talking about these things ? Those indeed are high-current power inductors, probably 0.45 to 0.6uH assuming the markings are anywhere close to the standard notation. The current ratings are a bit trickier to determine, since they're not usually marked... but as long as you get …
