Re: Advice on purchasing a gaming videocard

I usually just go with whatever has the best performance for the price without it being too expensive. The Radeon 7950 fit the bill this time for my main gaming PC, and then i got the GTX 660 Ti for our living room PC (just so i could check out the competition 🤣).

Re: PC Overhaul!

I just need to see if i have a PSU that's up to the task! The Suntek one that came with my new case *might* be ok (the specs definitely look better on paper than the old 200W Seasonic my PIII is currently using). Seasonic (200W): +3.3V = 14A +5V = 20A +12V = 8A VS Suntek (300W): +3.3V = 22A +5V = …

Re: They still make new 4:3 screens.

What i'd like is a 27" 8-bit IPS panel with a 1 or 2ms response time, low input lag (or none at all if possible), light AG coating and 120hz refresh rate  You and me both, that would be an adequate CRT replacement at last. For decent prices of course. :) Right now it's either 120Hz but TN, …

Re: Favorite consoles

Ummm... 9 million Saturns worldwide vs. 102 million Playstations worldwide according to Wikipedia. Is that enough to class Saturns as rare? Well it's definitely not rare in Europe... The UK alone has quite a few available on ebay, so no i wouldn't use the word 'rare' with a Saturn Unless it's …

Re: PC Overhaul!

I don't want to install mods as i want the game to look original That's actually too bad because that popular mod that makes all the models look more realistic, I forget the name, actually helps the game run better because the guy who did the models is so much better than Bethesda's guy at the time …

Re: PC Overhaul!

Yeah, that should allow for Morrowind to play comfortably at 800x600, maybe even 1024x768. It really depends on your definition of comfortable, man that game was demanding. :P I'm running my PIII Tualatin with 768MB RAM as well, no issues whatsoever using the unofficial SP2.1a ;). I was planning on …

Re: Favorite consoles

Why funnily? Actually quite logical that the more exotic/rare thing is more desirable to collectors. That's why people blow horrendous amounts of money on the pratically useless Creative 3D Blaster VLB cards as well. Now Saturn wasn't junk, but you'll have a hard time trying to sell a console …

PC Overhaul!

This is my current setup: *Intel SE440BX2 motherboard *850MHz slot-1 PIII (Coppermine) *384MB PC100 RAM (3 x 128MB) *64MB Voodoo 5 5500 AGP *40GB IDE HDD *Windows 98se And this is what i'm going to max it out as: *1.4GHz Tualatin Celeron via a Powerleap adapter *768MB PC100 RAM (3 x 256MB) *128MB …

Re: They still make new 4:3 screens.

I like the widescreens, but I hate how they now make up for like 99% of the market. If at least full 8-bit IPS panels would be mainstream by now! IPS panels are great for colour accuracy and wide viewing angles, but they're still not perfect for hardcore gamers just yet (usually higher input lag, …

Re: Favorite consoles

You're talking about the lack of perspective correction, also known as texture warping. I think it needs to be stressed more that all of that was due to ancient 1994 hardware, and the good developers found ways around this later on. Games like the Spyro and Crash series barely suffer from this …

Re: Voodoo 5 5500

I don't agree with that. I can and do notice the difference between 16bit and 32bit when playing most games. Quake 3 is probably the best example like d1stortion said, you can even see it when you're firing the shotgun. Kingpin also looks pretty cack when running in Glide mode. The colours are off …

Re: Advice on purchasing a gaming videocard

Why are people complaining about AMDs legacy status? Are you really going to keep the same GPU for more than 5 years if you want to play the latest games? They still release driver updates for cards as old as the HD2xxx series and they've been around for 7 years! They have to eventually put some of …

Re: Favorite consoles

Maybe in the really early times. By the times I started gaming I didn't even know what Saturn was, that's how early they killed it off. Perhaps if Sega wouldn't have always screwed their customers with the "buy our next great console" thing they could be still around with own hardware now! The …

Re: question about XP licensing

MS don't usually give you any hassle if you phone them. I changed the motherboard in one of my PCs which is using an OEM copy of Windows 7 x64... I told them it was a replacement board and everything else in the computer remained the same. They were fine with it . I think it asks you to …

Re: What Socket 370 boards do you recommend me?(133MHz only, and no ASUS or top manufacturers)

ECS is not worth looking into, IMO. Not only do they get absolutely terrible reviews online, but I once had a Socket 478 board made by them that would absolutely refuse to work with Windows 2000 or XP. It kept displaying MUP.sys errors. XD I could install Win98SE just fine, but I'm guessing that's …
