If there is one of the "newer" DOS games you try to play on your 650mhz then it will most likely be too slow. Since you're using Linux and a relatively slow CPU, I suggest you try DOSEMU instead if you want more speed from your DOS emulation.

I noticed another ALT-TAB issue. When I run DOSBox in fullscreen, switch to another app (via ALT-TAB) and then return to DOSBox I cannot run DB in windowed mode anymore. I can still see both windows in the taskbar, but the DB main window is "hidden". However I can switch back to fullscreen w/0 …

It's the official website that says 2003 😀 http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/ It doesn't really matter, though, as a quick glance at the news at the top will tell that the development of DOSBox is still active.
