Re: Technological critique

in Milliways
Can you share this tool ? Is it open-source ? .NET core runs under Linux and the 90% of the Framework API was ported to it, so ditching the Windows dependency is a real possibility.

Re: Technological critique

You could see the IL with ILspy (some even seem to translate it back into C#, like dotPeek), and then rewrite it / port it to .NET Core or try to compile it to native code with CoreRT , or maybe even IL2CPP. There are a lot of options to get rid of the .NET Framework dependency nowadays. Edit : All …

Thanks for the good laugh. Why even use MFC in 2020... Unless you want to torture yourself. Edit : although Rust seems to finally give us the benefits of managed memory with the benefits of native compilation. Very interesting language.

Don't touch MFC or DirectShow, unless you want to go mad. If you want to make a GUI or a console app, why not use .NET instead and have a much, MUCH easier time doing it ? (Core or Framework, it doesn't matter). It's all available with VS Community. VS Community contains everything you need and more …

Re: DOSBox-X branch

Wow, PC-98 emulation, that's very interesting ! 😁 It seems that there were a lot of updates to the PC-98 line over the years, how is it managed inside DOSBox-X emulation-wise ?

Re: FastDoom 0.3. A new Doom port for DOS, optimized to be as fast as possible for 386/486 personal computers!

I set-up a minimalist DOSBox build environment with Borland C++ 3.1's TASM.EXE + OpenWatcom 1.9 for DOS. It also works under Windows 9X or NTVDM. Can it be integrated in the repo via a pull request (I have a GitHub account) ? Or is it against the license of either products / the policy of the repo ?

ME2 was their last good game indeed. But Baldur's Gate was BioWare's DNA back in the day. Obsidian's last games such as The Outer Worlds were not very impressive. Every since Chris Avellone's departure they seem to not have recovered.

Re: Windows 98 DirectX Framerate Limiter

Oh nice, I've searched for such an utility for so long ! I know there is DXWND and RivaTuner, but a simple utility that does only FPS limiting for DX was so very missing. I'l try it ASAP. Thank you so much ! First try : MechWarrior 3.

Re: Where are you getting Windows games from?

Steam / GOG offer only a tiny portion of retro games. A lot of good old games are... NOT on Goold Old Games ! There's so much to preseve from the past decades and from all over the world. Archive (dot org), national efforts (like the BnF in France) and other websites are worth supporting.

In France / Belgium : - eBay, but it ain't cheap. The price of EVERYTHING is gouged up to eleven and beyond. - Rakuten (called Price Minister years ago) - LeBonCoin - https://www.2ememain.be/ - Garage sales, friends, colleagues. - Luck, childhood. :p I don't get them from GOG / Steam. Most of the …

Just finished the FPS Ion Fury. What a treat. Although there were a little too much laboratories/military complexes typed maps, all in all it was a very enjoyable ride with very cool MOD music. Playing on Ultra-Viscera difficulty for my first playthrough was not that difficult. But I won't dare to …
