When VLB was brand new, it was basically VLB or only ISA, and since manufacturers wanted to sell as many boards as possible, they perhaps just put 3 VLB slots to make it sound better? My guess for wanting a VLB-only board is to avoid having the VLB slots bridged together with the PCI slots?

Does the Gateway case have 1 big plug for the front panel thingies? If so, you'll have no choice but to do something about that. Also, the front panel thingies on the Epox should be right in the manual.

Well, better not use 98. Super pi should be of version 1.5XS and it's mandatory. 1.5XS won't run on 98. The same for wPrime 1.55. I wonder if perhaps 98SE with KernelEx would work... it doesn't magically fix all compatibility issues, but it does allow a good number of 2k/XP-only programs to run. …
