I've also found many games tend to be cheaper on the ST if you like having physical big box games. I'm actually an Amiga guy myself but some games the graphical difference is negligible but the ST version can be had cheaper.

I know this doesn't help but Ive had the same issue with Vortex cards, specifically the Diamond Monster card. some PC's it just locks up on me when I'm triyng to install it, other machines it installs with no problem whatsoever.

if you care about compatibility don't go with a graphics card any higher then the geforce 5 as has been stated. I run a geforce 5950 Ultra in my high end win98 machine and it works fine. only game that may not look 100% is Splinter Cell. Audio cards are cheap enough so why not? I use a Audigy 2 zs …

That's actually a great question. They were included in a lot with the socket 5 motherboard and the sound blasters. I don't really have any use for them myself. I believe they are HM systems socket 5 boards the 386 board I don't know.

interesting. guess I should of researched more. first couple sources I read didn't mention a 50mhz sx and one even specifically claimed no SX chip was made @ 50mhz. I never heard of them before.

The Virge compatibility seems to mostly come into play with DOS. if you planning on playing Win9x games mostly go for something else like a Matrox or Rage, maybe a Riva128 but that's a 1997 card?
