Re: Does this Win 3.11 GPF suggest anything?

You can also try changing CPU type. try cputype=pentium_slow I know that's required to run Windows 95 without half the GPFs, perhaps it'll help your case. I gave that a quick try, but the GPFs were still there. But I’m still finding that loading File Manager first seems to prevent the GPFs, so I’ll …

Re: Does this Win 3.11 GPF suggest anything?

You can also try switch video cards in dosbox.conf as well. I tried with a plain VGA 640x480 256 colours a while ago, but that didn't fix the GPFs either. I can probably get by with having win.ini set to load Windows Explorer and run Instant Accounting -- if it works, it works. More curiosity than …

Re: Does this Win 3.11 GPF suggest anything?

For mission-critical stuff you could try "real" virtualizers, like VMWare, BOCHS, qemu or VirtualBox. Yes, I currently have the program also running on Windows 98 in Parallels 3, but I was thinking of upgrading OS X from Leopard to Snow Leopard, and AFAIK Parallels is the only application I use …

Re: Does this Win 3.11 GPF suggest anything?

Hi, I tried changing core from auto to normal (cycles was already fixed at 4000) but that didn’t do it -- still got the GPF. I don’t know whether it’s relevant, but sometimes when I close a program group it unceremoniously exits to the DOS prompt. And sometimes when I exit Windows 3.1 intentionally, …

Does this Win 3.11 GPF suggest anything?

Hi, I’m running Windows 3.11 on DOSBox 0.73 on a MacBook running OS X 10.5.8, and trying to run Sage instant Accounting 98. When I start up Windows and run Instant Accounting, I get past the password dialog and then when I click on the program’s menu bar (or press Alt to get a menu item) it gives a …

Re: Reduce CPU load on idle under OS X?

Oh well, I tried a TSR ("uptim410") to keep the DOS time in sync with the CMOS time. It seemed to be doing its job but it was quite weird when I ran the "Clock" program in Win3.11 -- after having DOSBox on pause and then un-pausing, the clock was jumping between the correct time and the pre-pause …

Re: Reduce CPU load on idle under OS X?

OK, at least i can stop trying to find a fix, then. It might be OK just having DOSBox pause when not focused. The only trouble is that the time freezes too. Would it be possible to use a TSR that keeps the system clock synchronised to the CMOS clock? (Sorry, I don't have enough knowledge of …

Reduce CPU load on idle under OS X?

Hi, I’m running DOSBox 0.73 on a MacBook (2.2 GHz Intel Core Duo) running Mac OS X 10.5.8, and loading Windows 3.11. I’m looking for ways to reduce the DOSBox CPU usage when ‘idle’, both at the DOS prompt and when running Windows 3.11. At the initial DOS prompt the CPU usage is around 35%. Running …
