Re: Tex's ultimate 386 project!

I need to get a board that isn't so fussy about RAM, this QDI one is a little bit. Main thing is i really really need faster RAM. Specially because in this board i have no BIOS option to change RAM timings/waitstates. The CPU handles the 50MHz speed just fine, the ISA cards work fine as well …

Re: Tex's ultimate 386 project!

Nice rig......yet you ran out of CD-ROM drives?I don't see any sense of having a DVD-ROM in there. Basically, what Keropi said. I just need something to work with CDBQ. The drive works well. And reads DVD's, which i might use for backing up large amounts of data. I really don't want to give …

Re: Tex's ultimate 386 project!

Some bad news... I picked up the motherboard today, tried the osci mod, and the board just can't work with such high frequency. Even with such fast cache, it was very intolerant and system becomes immediately unstable. I had better success with another board which is cacheless, it runs fine at 50MHz …

Re: Tex's ultimate 386 project!

Falcon 3.0 had a little bit more realistic flight model of the F-16 as it focused mostly on accurate flying models than beautiful renditioned 3D graphics like strike commander. But anyway, you're right about Strike Commander being sluggish on a 386...you would need a 486DX/2 66 (I believe that this …

Awesome keropi. Now believe it or not i actually prefer the sc-88pro version. The strings and other instruments sound more realistic/less synthy than on the SC-55. This was the main reason why i chose Yamaha over Roland on this song. Gravis MIDI is good but actually sounds inferior to AWE in Tyrian. …

In 88pro mode some stuff sound bad and some benefit from enhanced fx/polyphony and even better samples ... at this point I treat it like something extra, I wouldn't replace a real SC-55 with it tbh Yeah that's right, i find a SC-55 is enough. And if some like the Yamaha sound get a MU80/MU50. Of …

Yeah the AWE cards sound great on Tyrian. I had the chance to hear the sound track when i had the AWE64 Gold in my system. As a matter of fact i think that even FM synthesis sounds great! As a musician/music lover, this was a great work in my opinion. Some of the stuff is really well composed. @ …

Tyrian: Roland SC55 vs Yamaha MU80

in Milliways
As we all know, there are several choices for general MIDI sound. The best and most popular choices come from Roland and Yamaha. While some seem to prefer Roland because this was what composers composed for, some might like Yamaha a little bit better on other tunes. I love both Roland and Yamaha, so …
