Re: Kids have it easy these days...

in Milliways
Personally, I think it's more ridiculous that I knew more about the computers we had in our classrooms in early elementary school than the teachers. :D ...UNTIL I ended up in classrooms with C64s in grades 7 and 8. That's what I get for learning DOS first. :P

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

It can be difficult coming up with good reviews and it's incredibly easy to miss stuff, either because the information provided is incomplete or inaccurate in some way, or costs money to find out for certain. For instance: I had already bought the Apogee release before I realized the Steam release …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

One tiny little nitpick: at one point I understood you to say the pogo stick was used in the Keen games from the point you get it in episode one onward. This isn't quite true, as Keen Dreams has no pogo stick at all. Of course, that's an odd episode anyway, so no biggie :) *goes back and watches …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Ancient DOS Games Episode 95 - Commander Keen is online! :) Kind of a shorter episode than usual this week. Coming up with the script was a bit difficult and due to approaching bad weather I had to get to writing the script while still frustrated at the third Keen game, so I missed a couple obvious …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Ancient DOS Games Episode 94 - Caverns of Xaskazien is online! Lots of guesses for Menzoberranzan this week, which was definitely a good guess, but then this is why they're called "guesses", right? ;) I'm kinda surprised this game isn't as well known as I expected, though at the same time, I've …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Geeze, this just reminded me of when I first attempted to buy Diablo way back in 2000. It was shrink-wrapped and everything, nothing looked out of the ordinary. I get home, unwrap the shrinkwrap, open the jewel case... ...and discover a copy of the SHAREWARE version of Diablo. x_x; I guess you need …

Re: CD/DVD backups

in Milliways
I have three methods of backing up stuff, all of which I use for different purposes: CDs: I only use CDs for backing up critical files related to everything I do that's not related to ADG. DVDs: I've already gone through like, 30 of these backing up ADG stuff. XD External HD: I keep a regular backup …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Star Quest I, hehe. Pretty obscure little title indeed, which I have in my collection as well. Though my copy has entirely different artwork, and yes, it's the full version. Says it's distributed by "MAGICOM" on mine. That's an unfortunate name... "Magicom" is a common term used for software …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Explain more about how delivering pizza fit into the game play... When you get ready to follow someone towards a planet, you suffer a power glitch and can't go to to light speed. With a different planet nearby you cruise over it until you find a place that looks to be a rest stop of some kind, and …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Ancient DOS Games Episode 93 - Star Quest I is online! Kinda surprised that half of the people who sent in guesses got it right... so next week's game is going to be incredibly obscure. ;D Also, anyone know if the December 1996 issue was the thickest PC Gamer ever made, or were there any issues that …

Re: It's really old!!!

in Milliways
Probably a similar look to the one I get when people see my physical game collection of over 200 games and I say: "I don't have enough games." ;D Since starting ADG, I've also been acquiring a lot more digital downloads of full games through various websites, GOG and Steam. ;)

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Ancient DOS Games Episode 92 - Catacomb 3-D Series is online! (Please note that this is a mature rated episode.) So... yeah... ALL four Catacomb 3-D games in the space of 14 minutes. They really are that simple when it comes down to it, though I think I may've over-compressed the information I …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Apparently, the entire stability of Blip depends upon time not being delayed by a second. XD Blip got back to me and said that the "leap second" we experienced is what caused the hour-long outage. I guess Y2K would've been more threatening if it added a second to our clocks. :P And thanks for …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Actually, Blip's located in New York City. Curiously, their response eMail to me earlier today suggested that nothing was or had gone wrong, so I sent them every little detail I had about what happened to see if perhaps I can get a better explanation from them. Their tech support is fairly good and …
