I've also seen some games in NTVDM eat up memory like crazy. These are usually DPMI games. Last time it happened IIRC, all of my physical memory was used up and pagefile size was slowly increasing to 2gb+ before I stopped it. heh. 😀

Have you installed any Microsoft updates recently? I've heard that XPSP2 may also cause this problem as well.....which I find odd because the "EMS Problem" affects all NT versions and even DOS as well but at least with DOS you can adjust the EMM386 options to get at least SOME EMS.

According to that link the game runs fine in 9x, therefore if you use Qemu/VPC/Vmware with 9x as a guest then the game should run fine.....

For a temporary solution you could probably find the registry entry that enables/disables screensaver in windows and create a batch file that disabled/enables screensaver on loading/exiting GliDOS.
