Re: sound is very jerky when using sb emulation

Nah, it's not VdmSound that's eating up the cycles. It's NTVDM (Windows NT4/2000/XP/2003/Vista's DOS emulation layer). Yeah, I think VDMSound refers to Idle Sensitivity as "try to reduce cpu usage....among other things", I'll have to look at it again tho. As far as sound quality goes it depends on …

Re: DOSBox Icon

heh. I'm staring back and forth between the blank dosbox icon right now and that big honkin' dosboxicon5.7-128.png....weird. :D So the 256-color and the 24bit ones are about the same huh? Not really suprising considering the uniformity....hmm. Good thing tho since it means it's the same icon design …

Re: Improvements to DosBox CLI (Discussion)

Yep, your right Qbix. It's only in ykhwong's build. Man, I should just rename each dosbox.exe to the name of the person who built it to differentiate between builds.... I agree with vasyl that "More" probably isn't that important compared to append, copy a+b, or xcopy.... But pausing at each screen …

Improvements to DosBox CLI (Discussion)

For quite awhile now I've always been annoyed that DosBox didn't support "More" by default. Requiring 3rd party utilities to add the functionality of "4Dos" or simply adding the utility into a path environment in DosBox. I've always used it to view .txt files (or any file really) in DOS/9x/NT using …

New forum idea......

in Milliways
Thought about doing a Wiki for this but why bother with Wiki's when we have this here wonderful forum? Basically....There should be another GAMES forum. Not sure if we should make subforums, Linux,Windows,DOS,MAC,etc..etc. Basically the list would be too long for subforums so I propose just a …

Re: Can DOSBox run DAT files?

install.dat is simply a data file. You cannot run a file that ends in .dat (well...ah nevermind). Anyways the only files you'll see for installing DOS games are install.exe, setup.exe, or install.com, setup.com or .bat. If the setup.exe is telling you that it must be run under Windows then...run it …

Re: Windows 95 Emulation

in Windows
Windows 95 games? As far as GDI/DDraw then Bochs/Qemu/VPC/Vmware will be fine. Vmware 5 incorporates some D3D8 support but it's pitiful compared to Cedega/Wine, in other words it's not worth using. The closest "emulator" which it isn't really for old Direct3D games is Wine/Cedega, there is no …

Re: Microsoft Windows 1.01

Windows 1x-2x are not supported in DosBox and won't be unless someone spends the time to fix them. Considering that they are not games it's doubtful that anyone will bother. Your better off trying Qemu/Bochs/VPC and seeing if Windows 1x-2x work in those.

Re: Genesia running slow

nah, "Top" is a command line program that you run from the terminal (Linux CLI) to monitor CPU usage (among other things) that your programs take up. "Dynamic" is in your dosbox.conf. Change core=normal to core=dynamic in dosbox.conf.

Re: Genesia running slow

Adjusting memory to 128 isn't going to do anything since DosBox only supports a max of 64meg. Heck, you could probably up it to 999 but DosBox will only use 64mb. Have you tried running "Top" or whatever other CPU utilization program your distro uses to monitor your processor usage? Chances are your …
