So you could build a system around either one and they would be exactly the same in benchmarks, right? You would just buy whichever one was cheapest.

So I'm looking at the tech specs of these on paper, and apart from the Athlon XP coming in 333mhz and 400mhz FSB variants, they don't look to be different at all. Is the Sempron actually the faster chip as the speed rating would seem to imply?

There actually is no ultimate sound card. Too many competing standards back then. You would need at least two, possibly three if you wanted to drop some cash for a Roland SCC-1 or LAPC-1 card, to cover all the bases.

What would be the point of upgrading the CPU in a games console? That would be like putting a Tualatin in a first generation XBOX. The extra speed isn't needed.
