I got the game from abandonia, should I just deleate it and try a different copy?

Ok, I tried life and death 1 and I get a runtime error and DOSBOS locks up when the operation starts, before then evreything works completely fine. and if I just use the mouse or keyboard it still works fine and I can do the operation, just how can I get it working with my joystick?
