This might not be related but I had issues with Matrox cards and V2. If I would access the Voodoo control panel the machine would basically hang. But your issue sounds different. There is a thread "search for Voodoo 2 compatibility matrix" that shows how to get many games going with a V2.

Got another optical drive. This one is a LG DVD-RW, GH22NP20 from 2009. It doesn't play CDDA 🙁 The thing I don't get is why bother with the analogue audio output when it doesn't work? Will get more of that LITEON drive. It reads discs faster and CDDA works well too.

That's the odd thing, I tried a 40 pin cable but during POST the drive still shows up as UDMA 5. But maybe I should test this in DOS?
