Great post raymangold! What Hakko de-solder unit are you refering to? I got a basic model from eBay, more or less a no name brand. It works ok but not as good as some YT videos I watched.

If you have a multimeter measure how much current flows. If you don't have one an approximate running time and using the Ah rating you can work out the current. Then you can pick a suitable AC DC adapter.

The game shouldn't crash because of the MT-32 or MUNT. In fact, all it does is send the MIDI information to the MPU401 interface. So even if you have no MT-32 or MUNT installed and configured, the game should at least run.

Well MUNT does a decent Job for LA games. And for GM, well you are spoilt for choice. But there is no need to modify the games. When I ran it in DOSBox with nothing to slow it down, the starting laser sounded like a machine gun, enemy ships would deplete the shields in about three seconds and the ships were darting around like flies.
