Re: Ensoniq / Creative AudioPCI

The X-Fi iso should be on various torrent sites! Found quite a few: http://thepiratebay.org/search/soundblaster/0/7/0 Also do these cards support SPDIF? Because the SBPCI.INI file has a line for that. And the DOS driver also tells me the card is in analogue mode when it boots up.

Re: Sound Card Recordings

Oh wow! That's nicely done! I can provide SC-55mkII recordings of Dark Forces and Doom E1M1 if you also want to include these... I love the AudioPCI! It blows the AWE out of the water and that at a much lower price with almost no fancy components on the card. Well I got to say I hardly heard much …

Re: Ensoniq / Creative AudioPCI

Morning! Wow that's awesome! I got a live! 5.1 underway as we speak and maybe getting a second one as well just to be sure... Do you have the original driver CD? I found most drivers on the Creative website, but nothing about DOS. There is a W95 and W98 driver pack but I have no idea of these will …

Re: Ensoniq / Creative AudioPCI

ISA cards I'm covered LOL AWE64 Gold with SPDIF I don't think it gets any better when it comes to Speech and Sound Effects. And I have two ISA MPU401AT compatible cards and a stack of Roland MIDI modules... But the PCI option interests me for another project / video I could see doing down the track …

Re: Ensoniq / Creative AudioPCI

Sounds good! It's amazing that once you start looking into things, all these other options pop up LOL It never ends LOL Just so you know what my thinking is... I am hoping that all or some of these turn out to be true: - Even better sound quality in DOS regarding digital speech and General MIDI - …

Re: Ensoniq / Creative AudioPCI

Creative Labs' Sound Blaster Live and Audigy cards use those same wavesets (and similar, if not the exact same) DOS drivers for their DOS MIDI music playback. Sound Blaster Live and Audigy come with DOS drivers? Could you please confirm this because if this is the case I will get these …

Re: Ensoniq / Creative AudioPCI

Ok guys I did more testing with Game and Demos! In a nutshell, games that support Sound Blaster 16 and General Midi should work just fine. The AudioPCI seems to be most compatible with the Sound Blaster 16. I had a lot of trouble with older Games from Sierra (e.g. Space Quest 4 with speech) and …

Re: Ensoniq / Creative AudioPCI

Yea and my 800MHz PIII doesn't help either... I'm just testing my 2 new Voodoo 2 cards. I don't have a SLI bridge so I am testing each card on their own. - I found the 3DFX driver which gabe me the 3DFX control panel in the Display Properties - Downloading a version of DX 8.1 for W98 - Downloading a …

Re: Ensoniq / Creative AudioPCI

Well last night I tried a bunch of other games and the Sound Blaster compatibility isn't really that good after all :-( Most games I tried either crash or freeze. The main thing that always seems to work is General Midi however. So at least that's something but the digital sound effects are a real …

Re: Ensoniq / Creative AudioPCI

Hmm so I installed W98SE. All good. Loaded Intel chipset driver (for 440BX), Nvidia Video driver (for TNT2) and Creative driver (for PCI128 which is a AudioPCI). Everything works I can hear sound. But there is not even a Creative control panel or any software allowing me to change anything at all …

Re: Ensoniq / Creative AudioPCI

Hmm the more I test the more games I find that crash with Sound Blaster sound. General Midi however works fine. Space Quest 4 and 5 sound really good! In SQ4 I updated the Sound Blaster driver (patch for faster cpu) but after a while the speech will just loop. Space Quest 5 doesn't start with Sound …

Re: Ensoniq / Creative AudioPCI

Hehe now I can just run to my Retro corner and try all this stuff out instead of wondering about it LOL Yes good point regarding EMM386. And indeed it doesn't start :-( I also tried hooking up a Roland through the joystick port, no luck. The sound still comes out though the speaker out port on the …
