EF2000 Reloaded

Just discovered a nice EF2000 package (not including the game, of course) by chance: http://community.combatsim.com/topic/32832-ef2000-reloaded Summary from the page above: The heart of EF2000 Reloaded is a special version of DOSBox written by our own mikew [1], with 3DFX code optimized for EF2000 …

Re: 10000 cycles = what CPU?

For gaming benchmarks I would recommend pcpbench, which was done by a long dead German gaming magazine called PC Player. Similar to 3dmark this benchmark renders a (very simple) 3d-environment, which makes it a pretty good tool for testing Pentium-era DOS game performance. 10.000 Dosbox cycles ( …

Re: Soundfont recommendation thread

in Milliways
This is pure speculation, so I might be wrong. But I don't think this was done with a soundfont device or any other General Midi setup. I'm pretty sure something more professional (e.g. NI Kontakt and a good (read multi gigabyte) orchestra bank) was used for these recordings. Most likely with some …

Re: Warlords III Darklords Rising - Windows 7 Fix

in Windows
Looks like the install batch file wasn't working properly under all circumstances. Please download the fix again from the first post, extract the archive to any folder and then simply run wl3dr_compatibility.bat as administrator (right click the batch file, select run as administrator). If …

Re: DOSBox-X branch

A little hint for everyone else who wants to try this out: The above dosbox.conf [autoexec] section isn't entirely correct. The CD-ROM has to be mounted with a drive letter as first parameter like usual, not with the bus number. At least for me using the win32 build ;-) . Otherwise oakcdrom.sys (or …

Re: Migrating D-Fend Reloaded?

This doesn't answer your question, but I can highly recommend to use D-Fend in relative paths mode to avoid future problems. Might take some time to convert your setup, but it's worth it. I use a folder (D:\Oldgames in my case) with everything related to old games including all needed programs. …

Re: Direct3D patch (Host)

Recently I tried to combine two shaders (by copying over code of one shader to another and adding it as a second pass) and failed miserably. Since I don't have the time and energy to really learn this, I'd like to propose a new feature for the d3d patch that might be interesting not only for me (and …

Re: Patch for OpenGL fullscreen bug

This shader is the best CRT simulation so far. No doubt. But I think there is still some room for enhancements. Besides barrel distortion, in reality there are two effects that define the special look of a CRT display. The first one are the scanlines. These are defined by the image resolution ( …

Re: EF 2000 2.0

try mounting the cd drive with the the same driver letter that was used while installing the game in windows: "mount k k:\ -t cdrom". If that doesn't work, you might want to try an iso (or bin+cue if you want to use cd music) image instead of the original cd. That definitely works with the original …

Re: POD and Voodoo 5

in Windows
That is perfectly normal. The glide2x.dll is part of your 3dfx driver and normally stored in your your windows system directory. POD, as any other Glide 2 game, normally uses this DLL. But if you copy another glide2x.dll to your games directory, that one is used instead of the one that was installed …

Re: POD and Voodoo 5

in Windows
You could try to copy various glide2x.dll from older (v1,v2,v3 or banshee) 3dfx drivers into your POD directory. There is no guarantee that this will help, but it might be worth it. Helped me once to run some other game, which I don't remember right now, running on my Voodoo 5.

Re: D-Fend Reloaded (DOSBox frontend)

I just did some tests, concentrating on the features I had requested, and couldn't find any more bugs, so to me this looks pretty much like a release candidate. The only thing I don't really like that much is, that the non-modal image viewer stays always on top of the main window. But that's …

Re: improving DDRAW

in Windows
Super EF2000 doesn't support 3dfx. A Voodoo patch, named GFX+, is only available for the DOS version of EF2000. Or, to be precise, EF2000 + TACTCOM add-on, aka. EF2000 v2.0 in the U.S. You have to use a DosBox build with kekkos Voodoo board emulation to use it (i.e. Ykhwong). Glide wrappers won't …

Warlords III Darklords Rising - Windows 7 Fix

in Windows
The attached .sdb makes Warlords III Darklords Rising playable on Windows 7 machines. Two things are fixed: ForceDirectDrawEmulation - fixes color palette issues EmulateGetDiskFreeSpace - prevents the game from complaining about disk space on startup Simply unpack the archive and run wl3dr_ …

Re: D-Fend Reloaded (DOSBox frontend)

I think, I figured it out. Under the suffix key in FileExts Explorer creates an subkey called "UserChoice", when the default app is changed via the context menu of a file. That one directly links the filetype to HKCU/Software/Classes/Applications/Application.exe See screenshot.
