In my opinion, those are too much for a 286! Any (s)vga card would do, and any IDE HD or a CF adaptor. The SB16 should be ok, but don't expect to find a card with PS/2 support for mouse. You have to get a serial one.

On my 286, I use 2 AA batteries, and it has been keeping the date/time and the rest of the settings for a year or more up to now. But I remember trying on some 386/486 boards, and even with 3 AAs it keeps losing some minutes each day.

On a 486, the turbo might disable the cache or something like that. If there is a turbo switch connector, place a jumper on it. Or it might be possible to control it in the bios.

Why don't you try another program to confirm the memory size? If it is on a 386 or higher, you can run speedsys.

So if the card in the picture has 8 44c256 chips, and that is 1MB, and yours has 4 chips that are 512kb in total, I assume that it may be possible to upgrade up to 512kb. If it is so, then you have to find chips similar to those it has right now. 44c256 may not work. That's one possibility. The …

I have a 1992 magazine that is reviewing that Amstrad 5286, and it says it is an adlib compatible only. The db15 connector is apparently a game port only. That PC came bundled with a joystick as well as a mouse and two little speakers.

I remember an Amstrad 5286 I think, which was very small in size, and was targeted mainly for games. It had a 16mhz cpu, 1mb ram, 40mb hd, and an adlib clone that looked like this. I remember it came with with 3 games bundled, Prince of persia, a golf game and a flight simulator.
