Have you ordered one of these "chinese" FX5500 PCI (like from Phil's video)? They might not work in old s7 systems... FX5500 has quite high CPU overhead and I wouldn't pair it with something slower than, let say Pentium III / Celeron / Althon / Duron 800.

I would rather try Athlon XP with Palomino core first (if you have one). Some early revisions of KT266(A) boards won't even boot with "standard" (non-mobile) Thoroughbreds.

BIOS probably doesn't support Mobile Athlons. If you have another motherboard (preferably something with VIA KT400/600 or SiS 746/748, ASRock is a good choice for playing with mobile CPUs) then you can test your XP-M on it.
