It could be that also people have stars in their eyes. They think what they have is priceless because there's been a bigger resurgence in popularity. With GOG and steam adding older games, they think that people would want to buy a "classic" system.

I only play using keyboard. Doesn't feel right to use the mouse. It's best if you play using a 90s style 102key PS/2 keyboard.

Personally I respect all eras of tech. My favorite being 90s. 80s micro computing and personal computers also interest me but the 90s hold a special place in my heart. Not only personally but emotionally.

So, I believe that because a lot of games have gone to open-world/sandbox type that it is harder to finish. Less intuitive, no GO HERE FOR NEXT LEVEL.
