It's not possible to devote any CPU time to getting the sync/sound/video done, and then devote the rest of the time in the timeslice to doing as many cycles as possible, or something like that?

I know emu junkies might get addicted to scanlines, but a PC never had sufficently low enough res monitors for the effect of scanlines. So unless someone really wants to add it, there's really not much call for it.

It (presumably) doesn't test for tandy video though, since it tries to use it anyway and messes up. Well to be honest I don't really know what happens, both Larry and Gold Rush use the Tandy speaker if machine is set to auto, but Gold Rush doesn't have messed up graphics. If machine is set to VGA …

0.61 doesn't work unless you have a current card with recent OpenGL driver. It's something you'll have to live with for now.

It's not just the stereo panning of Wolf3D that's broken, it's distance loudness. Like I said, doors closing miles away make VERY LOUD sounds. On a real SB, they are quieter the further you are away from them. UW2 must use a similar method for creating stereo panning, as it suffers from all the same …

I get the same bug. Starting up in fullscreen + OpenGL results in a crash. Good thing I prefer plain old blocky regular output.

On that machine I am only using DOSBox to run some very old games, and at the moment 0.60 is fine for that. But it's still a rather stupid requirement if you ask me.

It appears DOSBox 0.61 requires (a recent) OpenGL support to work at all, whether you use it or not. I hope this is fixed.

Ultima Underworld 2 has stereo panning of sound effects (doors opening/closing etc). but it doesn't work in DOSBox. Ditto for Wolf3D. That's ridiculous. Now OpenGL is a requirement of DOSBox? The card in that machine does support OpenGL, but only version 1.1.

Larry doesn't use VGA though, it uses EGA. But perhaps when it detects a Tandy, it uses Tandy 16 colour, which isn't supported.

Oh, and SB PRO 2.0 didn't support 8 bit sound. It's not such a big deal, since most DOS games (pre-pentium era) are mostly using 8 bit samples anyway. All mixing is done in 16 bit though.

Incidently, that FAQ is wrong. It may emulate a SBPRO, but it certainly doesn't output Stereo sound.

I finally got around to putting 0.61 on my other machine, a Pentium 3 running WindowsME. DOSBox refused to run, it kept crashing with an SDL Segmentation Fault (Parachute deployed) error. 0.60 worked fine (been running it for months on that box). A pretty major bug in 0.61 final, wouldn't you say? …

By the way Larry worked when I set the machine to VGA, however Tandy Speaker no longer worked (it wasn't detected) and I got PC Speaker sound instead.
