Interesting... I have a pair of very nice Allison CD-7's just sitting there in the living room doing *nothing*, as well as a few nice amp/pre-amps and receivers I'm not using at all - NAD and ADS stuff. Damn! one more project....

The Win98se Unofficial Service Pack solve most of the problems you speak of - memory etc. They are easy to track down. I use version 3, but 2.1 works too.

32k Tag chip arrived. Set cache jumpers for 2 banks @ 256k [8x 32k chips]. Booted but hung during POST after the usual first lines. System initialized 256k cache so may be on the right track. But aren't there thermal pastes known so be very adhesive to begin with? Not literally glue, but with a strong bond? I've used paste before that was a trick just to separate a huge heat sink tower from the CPU without pulling the chip right out of the zif socket - and that happened a few times too. …

P200 MMX = SL26J and does X1.5, x2, x2.5, x3 [AN430TX board] P233 MMX is currently installed under a heatsink and I can't check just now.

The 200 MMX on my AN430TX can underclock to 90mhz [x1.5 @ 60]. But after moving up to a 233 MMX the lowest now *seems* to be 120 [x2 @ 60]. The 233 interprets the published x1.5 jumper settings as x3.5 so the bottom end is lost. But there may be an undocumented jumper setting for x1.5, I just …

Haha - practice... I'm doing pretty good and will consider this set of chips "trainers" if it ends up badly [they were cheap]... Hopefully all the fussing will be moot with the arrival of a replacement TAG chip - seems my basic problem has been a TAG of the wrong mhz...

That's what I've been trying to do so far. But it's tight for space in there and difficult to gain side leverage. A tool that worked from above would be nice. I see a few on ebay but will check the stores here first...

I seem to remember there was a pincer-like tool for cleanly removing motherboard cache modules, but I can't seem to track anything down yet. Anyone know if/where these can be sourced. My set of 486 modules are getting a bit banged up at this point just gently prying them out of the socket...
