Re: Games that require MSCDEX exe driver...

in DOS
It's not quite as simple as that... WRF seems to be built out of lots of mini-exe files that all seem to interelate to make the game work in the most annoying way possible! Every folder the game installs has an exe! Anyway here's the very first one, rally.exe - if it doesn't contain anything useful …

Anyone got these DOS games working in Windows XP?

in DOS
By using XP alone, with VDMSound or using DOSBox instead? My findings are as follows: NASCAR 2 (Papyrus/Sierra) - doesn't do much in XP, DOSBox works but sloooow Network Q RAC Rally (Pixelcraft/Europress - not the Magnetic Fields game) - runs too fast when you drive into scenery (you can complete a …

Can anyone run these in Windows XP?

Pro Rally 2001 (Ubisoft) - does nothing once a track is loaded except playing audio Pod Gold (Ubisoft) - famously won't work; may be Pentium4 it doesn't like rather than XP and using Hyperthreading off doesn't help Extreme G2 (Acclaim) - does nothing on starting the game M25 Racer aka London Racer ( …

Re: A glide wrapper for DOS programs

Hey Glide and bugs go together! Seriously though, I do think the later Catalyst ATI drivers aren't brilliant. In many (many!) games I get the scenery clashing and showing through other scenery in the distance. Seems like they don't do w-buffer or even z-buffer nearly well enough! That and the …

Re: A LOT of WindowsXP fixes...

F1 2000 and F1 Championship Season 2000 Finally got these games to work in Windows XP fairly reliably! They usually crash to desktop loading a track. Note that I achieved this using Windows XP Home and an ATI Radeon 9800XT with Catalyst 4.4. You mileage may vary(!). Do the following: 1. Install/ …

Re: A LOT of WindowsXP fixes...

I think the installer problems are down to something specific in some XP setups. I found that one version number of InstallShield won't work at all on my PC but all others will . Just a bit odd. I have the original release of Elite Force though so budget re-releases may be better or it might just be …

Re: A glide wrapper for DOS programs

Tried in in NFS2SE: pretty much the same unfortunately. However I did notice that switching between 16bit and 32bit in Global settings (Optimal in other tab) changes what is flickery - with 16bit in Global, the flickering is much reduced with just narrow bands flickering and the shadow right under …

Re: A glide wrapper for DOS programs

Dege, Okay hang on for the big cut 'n' paste! Just ran NFS2SE with the test version you posted (P4EE 3.2GHz, 1GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9800XT, Catalyst 4.4). emulate W-buffering selected: ------ dgVoodoo: driver description ------- dwDevCaps: 61bbef1 dpcLineCaps dwMiscCaps: 1b2c83 dwRasterCaps: c7361b3 …

NFS2SE

Hi Dege, Just had a quick look at dgVoodoo 1.21 and it appears that the two effects shown before on this thread still affect NFS2SE, but if you use Emulate W-Buffer as well as having flickery road lines you also get all the textures near the car warping left and right like a PlayStation game (looks …

dgVoodoo

dgVoodoo 1.21 appears to have been released a few days ago: http://www.freeweb.hu/dege/ I see he's been testing a some games I mentioned (e.g. Test Drive Off-Road 2!). From readme: What's new in v1.21 ------------------- This version is mainly intended to be a bugfix version of 1.20: - IRQ-problem …

Re: Program being used problem

That happens to me with ever program I ever run in VDMSound and is my biggest annoyance with it! I fix it in a somewhat unrecommended way... On WinXP I do Ctrl+Alt+Del and bring up Windows Task Manager. I then choose Processes and End Task explorer.exe (Windows). This makes the whole desktop …

Re: Network Q RAC Rally

Yeah VDMSound does work but there's a bug in running it through Windows: whilst driving in a straight line feels correct, if you steer into the scenery the game speeds up to lightning fast and you can complete a stage in 6 seconds! I expect it will probably operate better in DOSBox... if DOSBox …

Re: Games that require MSCDEX exe driver...

in DOS
Got to drag this one up: WRF demo works fine in DOSBox as it doesn't call MSCDEX, however the full game doesn't. I'm wondering if there's a hacked version out there that doesn't check for CD-ROM personally...! Ice

Re: XW vs TF, no CD Audio music? Anyone?

It could be that the game tries to play the audio via analogue playback and WinXP is usually set up to digital playback. You might need a white cable from soundcard to CD-ROM too. To change the CD-ROM setting in XP, open My Computer, right-click on your CD/DVD drive and choose Properties, click the …
