Re: The Need for Speed

in DOS
if your selection icon is jumping around a lot it might be because your controller is not calibrated to the games liking. Try the game without joystick/wheel/etc plugged-in or try to get into the game setup menu and recalibrate. I had some (not very useful!) DOS NFS:SE tips as well as NFS:SE Win95 …

Re: Pod...

WOW! Dege has a patch that gets POD running on a Pentium4 (well some versions, I got the MMX version running but the Direct3D version caused an error and my Pod Gold 3Dfx version isn't detected, but it's a great starting position, especially as his 3Dfx wrapper also now supports POD!): http://www. …

Re: Zeckensack's Glide Wrapper

To Zeckensack: I noticed your report on Jane's blurry cockpits ( http://www.zeckensack.de/glide/ ) - perhaps this is the same issue affecting Boss Rally (in your wrapper the textures appear to be twice as low-res compared to Dege's wrapper/real Voodoo). Incidentally I can supply you with a cut-down …

Re: NV-1 Emulation

How different were the Sega ports? I'm assuming they included Virtua Fighter Remix, Panzer Dragoon and Virtual-On (or was that an MMX exclusive title?)? Miss that high-color Panzer Dragoon. The actual release version of Panzer Dragoon ran in 640x480 in 16-bit high-color... so how did the NV-1 …

Re: Microsoft Virtual PC

I really wish there was a Win98 emulator as some later Win9x games won't work in XP and I don't want to partition my hard drive... Examples: Pro Rally 2001 Williams F1 Team Driver Extreme-G2 Pod Gold (more a Pentium4 problem apparently) As Virtual PC only emulates low-end PC graphics cards (S3-era) …

Re: A glide wrapper for DOS programs

Well my last contribution to this thread (I'll post findings on 1.30 in a new thread!) is to say that Dege regarding the 3games you can't find demos of: Ignition: the 3Dfx patch was an add-on to the game so you'd need to find an abandonware/second-hand copy then get the patch. It's great fun so …

Re: Rendition wrapper would be nice...

Yeah back then everyone had their own standard. Matrox started with the Matrox Mystique hardware for 3D games. PowerVR, 3Dfx, Matrox, Rendition, 3D Blaster... all had specific standards. Sadly I went for PowerVR in my old PC then found that whilst specific PowerVR games were nice, hardly any basic …

Re: Know any useful Fix-It programs?

in DOS
I think pretty much all slow-down utilities are useless for me as I run with hyper-threading on. Looking at the processor usage, usually the slow-down utility only holds up one process and the otehr still makes the game too fast! Ice

Rendition wrapper would be nice...

The Rendition cards were a joint venture between Sierra and someone else I seem to recall. However, there was a Rendition version of CART Racing (aka IndyCar Racing 2) which added filtering and improved graphics to (some but not all I *think*) tracks. That'd be nice to experience! Unlikely to …

Re: PowerVR SGL Wrapper?

Three other interesting PowerVR titles: 1. The original Ultim@te Race, which came with the first generation (no bilinear filtering) PowerVR card, had one HUGE track linking up all three of the tracks in the 3-track PowerVR version (basically 3 of the 4 circuits in Ultim@te Race Pro)! 2. Wipeout 2097 …

Re: Screamer 2 and various 3DFX .EXE-s

in DOS
Mine's the top one and came on the Screamer 2 CD-ROM (this is the White Label budget re-release which includes all the patches (normal and 3Dfx updates)). Unfortunately all the patches have to be installed from the command line, which is a bit of a bind, but they do work now with dgVoodoo's DOS …
