I suppose if anybody does any benchmarks on this topic, it would be just as interesting to extend the platforms to include Win95 a/b/c, Win98, Win98SE, WinME, NT4, W2K, and XP.

I changed L2 cache to AUTO and the results in games jumped up considerably...Cachechk scores now normal (compared to 486 Benchmark scores): Auto probably set the correct dirty bit (7+1), which you otherwise do not have manual control over. If the system has it set to 8+0 for WB cache, I too get …

A well configured AMD X5-150 should be faster than a Cyrix 5x86-100. If the L2 and RAM timings need to be dropped too low, then I suppose the Cyrix 5x86-100 could be faster. The Speedsys score is not necessarily indicitive of real world performance. Are you using 'cachechk -d -t6' to check your …

The unofficial Win88SE service pack is everywhere online. It is even on those annoying download sights which have 10 "download" buttons, whereby you need to figure out which download button is the correct one. I've noticed the memory read speed to be really slow like this when the dirty bit is not set appropriately in write-back mode. Try setting your L2 cache to write-through mode and run cachechk again. Perhaps. But, I have two -100HF units. One of them overclocks to 133 MHz at a low lower voltage the the other. One needed 4.0V, which makes it run too hot, while the other did pretty well at 3.75 V. To be honest, I only used a generic 486 heatsink/fan on the -100GF unit, so I cannot really comment …
