Can you not go to PIO-4 mode? What results do you get if you run the same tests with a (PCI) Promise ATA TX2-100 card in there?

From each major graphics card manufacturer, what is the most modern graphics card which will work on a SiS-, UMC-, ALi-, Intel-, VIA- or OPTI-based 486 system? for me the best os to run on a pci 486 rig is win95(osr2), and why not try a voodoo or riva128 or rendition? a tnt may indeed be so new that its driver gets too complicated too run a 486 rig. I like to setup a system which can test multiple options. I like the tri-boot setup with Win98/NT4/W2K …

There are two types of DB9 cables. One that has starts counting the pins on the first row and then goes to the second, and the other that counts one on the first, one on the second, etc. If I remember well the pre-pentium stuff uses one type, and the later hardware uses the other.
