Interesting. I think Sandra naturally has a 2% variance. Don't you need to account for some margin of error in the cache speed and overall timing? It seems like, for example, that 12 ns cache would be a safe bet for 66/75 MHz 10 ns for 83 Mhz 8 ns for 100 Mhz

I personaly use PCI ATA cards of some sort. Use the vendor supplied drivers. See if this works first with your current HDD, CD-ROM, and cable.

Does anyone have a Slot 1 VIA Apollo 133 chipset board with an unlocked PII w/CPUID 0633 or earlier? I was only aware of 440BX boards disabling the L2 cache for slower clocked PII's. I didn't think this symptom would migrate into VIA boards. Having the multiplier jump to 5.5x and the FSB drop to 24. …

It seems that the CPUID of the PII-266 chip I am using is one stepping newer than the PII chip Swaaye used in the 133 MHz Challenge. Whereas my stepping is 0634, it looks like Swaaye's is 0633. There must be something different in the way 0634 handles the 2x request compared to 0633.

If the motherboard uses a 1/2 FSB-to-PCI multiplier, I suppose the PCI bus would be at 41.7 MHz. I haven't had any problems with a Matrox Millennium G200, Promise ATA card, nor Intel Pro PCI card with an 83 MHz bus. About 1 min. less required for the AWE64 compared to the Live! About 1 min. less required for the Live! w/UseSurround and Use3dHardware compared to the AWE64 From these results, neither card comes out as being much better or worse than the other.
