They'll load the OS fast enough and the OS itself as well as some simple programs will run quite well but beyond that and for most tasks, you're really better off with a K6-2 or a 233mhz Pentium MMX. 16-bit PCMCIA and 32-bit CardBus are keyed in such a way you can insert a 16 bit card into a CardBus slot but not vice versa. The card is probably incompatible with the chipset used by your reader. You might have better luck with a standard USB 1.1 card.

I have a Selectric II in my attic. I used that thing regularly until around 2006 or 2007 when it developed this problem where it'd eject my ribbon whenever I tried typing. A Selectric would definitely win against my Royal Aristocrat. You can't type very fast with that thing.
