Re: Windows 11 Choppy framerate in DX8 and older games

in Windows
Actually, it seems the Compatibility Patches didn't help at all lmao. It seemed like they worked for a time but now Tomb Raider 4 and 5 are choppy again. I guess this doesn't have anything to do with the games themselves then. I'm more thinking that this might be an issue with an outside application …

Oh I see. I learned about the DXPrimaryEmulation in this thread, but in my case I had to use it along with DisableDXMaximizedWindowedMode and ForceSimpleWindow together in order to make it work smoother. Original GOG sdb patches only apply ForceSimpleWindow which was not enough for me. I had to use …

MUX switch is a pretty recent addition as far as I know and it was mostly promoted as a way to have G-SYNC working on laptops so I'm not surprised you might have not heard of it. I only found out about it after I bought this laptop lmao. As far as I know when MUX switch is off the OS treats the iGPU …

Re: Windows 11 Choppy framerate in DX8 and older games

Lenovo Legion 5 has a newer NVIDIA Optimus technology that introduces MUX switch. This means that when you turn MUX switch, it turns off the secondary GPU and runs strictly on NVIDIA RTX GPU. On some laptops MUX switch is called Hybrid Mode but it's the same thing. What you are saying is correct, …

I have tried MSI Afterburner (I hate this app lmao) but it seems its on screen displays work only for DirectX 9 games. They don't show up in my older games. I checked CPU/memory/HDD usage through the good ol' task manager but it doesn't show anything suspicious. Tomb Raider IV uses about 15% of CPU …

Re: Windows 11 smaller resolutions are very dark

in Windows
I tried it (on both bgmirror and agds) but still nothing. Infact when I reload the game gamma setting slider reverts back to default position. At this point I wonder if it might be a better idea to find out why small resolutions in games have way darker graphics in general. EDIT: I think I found out …

I tried DXPrimaryEmulation and d3d8.dll file with Tomb Raider 4. It seems it doesn't help. Interestingly enough, I noticed that if I pin an overlay from Xbox Game Bar App, the game works much smoother... Weird. EDIT: It seems the games run choppy even in windowed mode.

Windows 11 smaller resolutions are very dark

in Windows
I bought a new laptop recently and since then I've been noticing that more and more games are shockingly dark compared to when I played them on my older laptop. I've been looking around and honestly I don't know what to do anymore. I am using a two display setup, one is a 2560 x 1440 (QHD) 165Hz …

Windows 11 Choppy framerate in DX8 and older games

in Windows
Hi everyone, some time ago I bought a new laptop (Lenovo Levion 5 15ACH6H) and I have noticed that some of my old games, especially Tomb Raider the Last Revelation, have choppy framerate. I am running my laptop with only NVIDIA RTX 3060 turned on (AMD GPU is off) so it should be way enough to run …

Re: PC freezes in games

I'm thinking about not running this PC at all until I find a better PSU tbh. The one I have now worked for ages on another PC, but I really don't want to use it if it can break my PC (especially if it can kill me and my family). I just wanted to check if it's really the PSU that caused this problem …

Re: PC freezes in games

Okay guys I'm really sorry to bump this thread only now, but I think I found out the issue. Apparently it was not the power supply but bios configuration. According to THIS thread this problem is caused by wrong AGP aperture size (what does it do anyway?). I changed mine from 64mb to 4mb and all the …

Re: PC freezes in games

Maybe an attachement would clear this up? I dunno, maybe I'm just reading it wrong. But if this PSU is also bad, then I guess I'll try to find a replacement. Since I'm in Poland ebay is a no-go for me tbh, since costs are higher than it's worth, but I'll check allegro.pl and see if there's something …

Re: PC freezes in games

I have a second PSU (300ATX) that has: +3.3V = 22A +5V = 30A -5V = 0.3A +12V = 14A -12V = 0.8A +5V SB = 0.8A It's the one which made PC turn off after about 5 minutes. I have checked the inside of it and it looks fine, so I don't know why it would turn off (as if PC lost power or was too hot). Any …

Re: PC freezes in games

Oh dear, that's a rather bad news with the PSU. I thought so it would be too weak (there was a really bad behavior at that time when companies would make great rigs with ABSOLUTELY awful PSU and SPU). Now I truly wonder where could I get a new PSU that would fit this old PC. I mean they don't really …

PC freezes in games

Okay, so I have this slight problem that I don't really know how to fix anymore. The thing is my old PC freezes in games, but not every game. I think it freezes in every game that needs directX or something like that. When PC freezes, there's no way to fix it, sound plays weird (constantly repeating …
