Re: MartyPC

in PC Emulation
Nice! Can't wait for the Tandy sound to work, so I can port some SAA1099 stuff to Tandy. But having the gfx is also quite nice, in the future I'll try to port Rick Dangerous 2 (which never got a proper Tandy mode, unlike RD1, even though there are traces of it in the EXE) to Tandy. I can't recall …

Re: IBM PS/1 Audio card support in PicoGUS?

in PC Emulation
As Wikipedia writes, "The Sound Blaster Pro cards are basically 8-bit ISA cards, they use only the lower 8 data bits of the ISA bus. While at first glance it appears to be a 16-bit ISA card, it does not have 'fingers' for data transfer on the higher "AT" portion of the bus connector. It uses the 16- …

Well, they're 16-bit cards, and the PicoGUS is 8-bit. Come to think of it, that would also prohibit proper AWE emulation. Not sure why the didn't opt for a 16-bit ISA card, perhaps it's the limit to the number of the RP2040's GPIO pins.

Not sure if AWE 32/64 support is doable. Perhaps 32, but recall that the "64" was just 32 + the other 32 in the Windows driver, so for DOS games it's useless. I think the feature set of AWE 32 already exceeded that of the GUS, but it supports both wavetable and OPL3, and I don't think a RP2040 is …

Re: MartyPC

Another question for the long run: is it possible to configure GLaBIOS somehow to skip the RAM check. I reboot MartyPC quit often, and waiting for the RAM check is boring 😀.

Re: MartyPC

I hope I'm allowed to attach an EXE file, let's see... (Note the code is a bit Q&D, but the loop setting the colour should be fairly optimal.)

Re: MartyPC

in PC Emulation
Ok, I've finally managed to create a working example of both changing the colour (in 640 mode) mid-frame, and switching to 320 mode. One thing that I notice is that MartyPC, as opposed to a my NuXT with ATi Small Wonder, seems to apply changes per 8 lines or thereabouts, at least the jitter I get …

Re: MartyPC

in PC Emulation
A few days ago I had this short conversation with Trixter, and it seems that changes to 03D8 and 03D9 are instantaneous, making it possible to switch 640x200 mono and 320x200 4-color modes on the fly mid-screen. No DOS program ever used that, to my knowledge (I was triggered by this since Elite for …
