Re: Authenticity of AdLib sound

That's why he used the "" :) Well it gets away from the point anyways... How true, my sincere appologies for getting off-topic. Yesterday, I found my original AdLib card back, brings back memories. Now if only I could afford such a nice ISA to USB device ( http://www.arstech.com/item--usb2isa.html …

Well, waves aren't digital, so OPL chip registers contain a stream of data that represents a time-dependent wave function Sure, but in that respect all digital devices used to output data mnt for humans are emulators (a gfx card emulates colours, a sound card emulates sound, etc.), and that's not …

Re: Authenticity of AdLib sound

Correction: I wrote that the chip is analog but it isn't (see Wikipedia page about OPL chip). Instead it "emulates" analog waveform through a very rapidly changing digital register. Result is very similar though. It doesn't 'emulate' anything. The OPL is a purely digital chip, needing a D/A …

Here's two links describing capturing digital sound from the original AdLib: http://yehar.com/dsp/adlib/ads.pdf , http://www.cc.jyu.fi/~jrop/specials/digisnap/ . Iirc (but I may well not), the AWE64 has built-in OPL3 circuitry, equal to many OPL clone chips around. I'd find it hard to believe they …

What's Mame? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAME http://www.mame.net/ You know, there's this thing called Google ( http://www.google.com ) that allows you to quickly find answers to any 'what is XXX (fill in any word)' questions. Also, I found a page giving driver specifications on the AdLib: http:// …

Re: Authenticity of AdLib sound

So is AdLib sound authenticity in DosBox beyond the scope of this group? I'm not sure about the current status of the Dosbox Adlib emulation (as it is copied form Mame, and I'm not sure whether a) Mame has recently updated and b) Dosbox has incorporated the changes), but 0.65 wasn't quite accurate. …

Re: Ctrl+Break == no go in either QBasic or C++ 3.1

in DOSBox General
The following will need to be done to get ctl-break to work: This seems like a manageable task. Maybe someone can pick it up. This raises an interesting (and perhaps often asked) question: couldn't we have a list of these 'todo' tasks on the DOSbox developers page, so that someone willing to devote …

Re: Ctrl+Break == no go in either QBasic or C++ 3.1

Well there's a lot more around it than "just checking on dos in/out functions". If you need it, boot dos. Sure, why not make DOSbox a PC emulator, and make booting DOS obligatory for it to work, even easier! :) Really wd, lighten up a bit, it's not a personal assault on you every time someone …

Re: In Search Of The Most Amazing Thing

TIMER is a read-only variable in GWBASIC returning the current system time as a floating point number. Actually, that's the TIMER function. There is also a TIMER statement, which sets up timers. The function is the more likely candidate, but I'm not really sure what old GWBASIC does with these in …

Re: In Search Of The Most Amazing Thing

Well but JEmlay said that the game came with a basica.exe (GWBASIC) that worked on his old pc. I couldn't find any gwbasic version that worked with the game. Later basica versions must have included a copy of the ROM in case the ROM wasn't present. I remember both BASIC.EXE and BASICA.EXE being …

Re: Ctrl+Break == no go in either QBasic or C++ 3.1

Ctrl-break checks are woven into the dos in/out system, and as dosbox is missing those checks (and i don't see any easy way how to add them) it doesn't work no matter how you remap keys. You could try booting msdos or freedos inside dosbox. It shouldn't be too difficult to add? INT9 should cal …

Re: In Search Of The Most Amazing Thing

I haven't tested to see what happens exactly but it is possible that the code will work, but also sets up a timer, which triggers and causes a problem. (Or maybe it simply never works and the difference was the result of timing differences in my own actions -- the old BASIC dialect is very …

Re: In Search Of The Most Amazing Thing

> why does the game work with the version of BASIC it comes with on a slower machine? If you have such a version of basic why don't you simply use that version in dosbox as well??? BASICA.EXE relies on the original IBM ROM BASIC to be present (the ROM that allowed the original PC to boot into BASIC …

Ok, I'll try that. Thanks for the advice, and if anybody else had any experience with such a problem, than i would be grateful for some additional info :-) M. Well, you could also try playing with the output settings in the [sdl] section of your dosbox.conf, it's a lot easier than downngrading …
