Re: Descent 1 error

in DOS
On topic, have you tried booting your machine completely fresh in DOS, not loading EMM386 and seeing if it will run? If you did a full install you shouldn't need a disc inserted to run the game. You might even need MS-DOS 6, because I recall having issues with Descent on the "MS-DOS" that Windows 9x …

Re: Good Minecraft mod ideas

it's less about 'graffix' and more about something far less stressing a virtualmachine. and software rendering would be more logical to avoid block overdraw and have really fast spans to work with Can one really write a software renderer for this thing in Java, of all languages? And actually have …

Re: What game are you playing now?

The 1.3 patch introduces some interesting "Recycler Variants" that change up the gameplay. Even though the scrap mechanic remains the same some of these mods actually make BZ2 alot more fun than the stock version. Forgotten Enemies was also a really, really good community based expansion. I actually …

Re: What game are you playing now?

BZ2's shortcoming really was the dramatic change in gameplay. Scrap is instantaneously collected, there are no geysers, your recycler is a permanent building after deploying, the armoury and factory are also permanent buildings CONSTRUCTED by the constructor unit, and additional scrap capacity is …

Re: Unreal

in Windows
I should mention. Audio choppiness in Unreal can be alleviated under Windows Vista/7 by setting Galaxy's latency to 80 or higher. I don't know about Windows 8 though. Another way to avoid audio stuttering is to use ALchemy with a hardware mixed chipset (EMU10k1, EMU10k2, EMU20k1, or EMU20k2), add …

Re: What game are you playing now?

I would love to have new people to play Unreal with me. Though I'm still going through the process of consolidating my mods together and getting my custom server back up and running. I do frequent newbiesplayground jackals coop server whenever they're not running a 227 specific map, though.

Re: Windows 7 died

This whole "planned obsolescence" crap is borderline trash for paid software. I can understand it for FOSS stuff like Linux, but Windows? Don't they get enough revenue to continue support for even atleast XP?

Re: Is there a way to fix CDDA volume issues under Vista/7?

in Windows
Ripping the audio and lowering it's dB reminds me of how that is the only way to lower music volume in PSO... It would defiantly work though, but if _inmm will bind properly to xtremeg2's executable is another story. There is no CD Audio level in the windows mixer on Vista/7... All you can do is …

Is there a way to fix CDDA volume issues under Vista/7?

in Windows
My spouse is playing Xtreme-G2 PC version after getting a pristine copy of it off eBay, and the program cannot alter the volume of the background music, it always plays at maximum volume. I notice Starsiege did this also unless I apply that strange WinMM wrapper that collector applied to Starsiege. …

Re: Poll: most annoying game controls

The wing commander games have horrid controls even with a joystick. It seems dependent on how fast the game is running. Privateer 2 though, good god... The dedicated roll keys only WORK if you have a joystick, you can't use them if mouse is enabled... WHY!?!?

Re: What game are you playing now?

Unreal, though the game seems to be populated by this "clan" of Spanish speaking players that seem to like to insult anybody who speaks English, oh and they put forth zero effort to play nice with you. I wish all the good players didn't leave.
