Re: D3D 5.0, best card for the job?

in Windows
There were alot of accelerators my father never bought, he stuck with the 3dfx series before switching to ATI... and man ATI was horrible. I had a ATI Rage Pro (I think..) and just 20 minutes of gameplay in UT99 results in all the textures turning into a complete memory screw over mess... (had to …

Re: D3D 5.0, best card for the job?

in Windows
Wasn't thinking of using a i740 was just curious about actual accounts of it. DarkStar engine games like Starsiege and Tribes 1 (the only two to begin with) have OpenGL presets for the i740. I never actually had the chance to see how horrible those games looked under the i740 though.

Re: D3D 5.0, best card for the job?

in Windows
That's funny, my father got me a voodoo 3 but ended up returning it... I wish he didn't now. I used to play Unreal tournament on a voodoo 2 (I think SLI as well) didn't notice too bad a performance out of it despite the hardware design at the time. I'll look into finding a good voodoo 3 thanks. …

D3D 5.0, best card for the job?

in Windows
Of course the only game really giving me alot of trouble is Hellbender... I've been looking into the history of D3D and the various 3D accelerators during that time period but I'm unsure which one I would really want to go for if I want to have as much compatibility as possible with all the …

Re: Spectre VR broken level.

in DOS
Yeah I managed to find it, sorry about that... And apparently the patch file has the level editor too, so this must be the thing Velocity mailed to the customers who mailed in for it I guess. EDIT: afkjaslfja now it's asking me for my serial and I don't have the floppies with me...

Re: Spectre VR broken level.

in DOS
I can't seem to find their file for Spectre VR, and a google search points me to some text archive in 1996 for a "spectre.zip" on some ancient FTP. The fact that there's a CD version makes me wonder if I should just pursue that rather than try to patch the floppy version but I can imagine this level …

Re: Spectre VR broken level.

in DOS
I hate to double post but there's also this interesting thing where they tell me in the manual how to save the game but they never tell me how to load the saved game... And I've tried any sort of obvious key combination while the level text flies at the screen but nothing happens, only thing I can …

Re: What's cool in your collection?

I seen someone play Crysis 1 on a Soundblaster 16 ISA, Pentium III and a Voodoo 3 (or was it 5?)... Hilarious stuff there. I'd say the only thing interesting that I have is a Vectrex console, though sadly my father never mailed in for Minestorm 2 because I never got that far as a child to uncover …

Re: What's cool in your collection?

Not for somebody who's seen boxes of that thing before... Man I wish my father got this instead of the AdLib. WAY more musical potential with a OPP than the measly OPL2. (though the OPL3 can be paired to four-op mode the polyphony sucks)

Re: Video Game Console Emulators on DOS?

in DOS
Well ZSNES can run on DOS but you need a MMX capable processor to use it fully. No$GMB was a DOS Gameboy emulator, I think it used the adlib to emulate the DMG APU... (could be wrong, never tried it) As for PS1 and XBOX... PS1 probably not and XBOX defiantly not...

Re: Spectre VR broken level.

in DOS
Tomorrow I'll put up a video of the offending level on all three difficulties. (on my hexed config file that gives me a godly machine) EDIT: Okay it is level 33 on Easy, the tip in the level is "ALL WEAPONS ACTIVATED" and here's the flag stuck in the positive cyberspace terminal http://99.121.254. …

Spectre VR broken level.

in DOS
On the MS-DOS floppy version of Spectre VR there is a level where a flag is stuck inside of a positive cyberspace node, there is no way to collide with said flag. Does anyone have any idea if there were any patches or is there any clues to how the .MAT files are formatted so I can move the flag out …

Re: Unreal 1 and A3D cards.

in Windows
I take it I'm going to probably might have to go with 220 even though I read somewhere that it started breaking several things audio-wise. Hell I might just test it with retail unpatched Unreal. (version 200) Oh yeah that's the one of the many reasons I avoid the 227 patch, the creator does not want …

Horrible colour 16-bit colourbanding on AMD hardware.

in Windows
So I have a few old D3D 6.0 Win9x games that look absolutely ugly and makes trying to determine things in distance fog neigh impossible because apparently the HD 6870 does not do any sort of dithering on 16-bit colour depth rendering. LithTech 1.0 games are my major culprit, is there any way to …

Re: So what do you guys do... you know, in real life?

I'm a jack of all trades master of none; I make low poly models in Blender. I make covers of other music (anything from Nintendo to MS-DOS era) in Impulse Tracker. I do PHP coding albeit very rarely. I also maintain a really small credit card sized webserver sitting a few inchs away from me...

Unreal 1 and A3D cards.

in Windows
Has anyone got any experience with this? Since my Vortex 2 card stopped working on me I never had the opportunity to try out Unreal 1 with the Aureal A3D hardware sound enabled. I'm wondering what version of the game I should play since overtime the audio subsystem that Unreal uses has gotten either …
