Good luck with it. Replacing caps is pretty easy but is a chore for someone like me who isn’t great at soldering - I bought a new iron recently and better quality desoldering braid and what has made a difference.

Yes I’ve had the same experience with my Goldfinch - can be flakey, x-wing causes it to go mental, and AWE often sounds like arse, but I’ve left it in my P166MMX for years all the same! Yep sounds like it could be the caps, but I’ve seen similar behaviour recently with a machine of mine when I put an IDE to CF adapter as a slave to the main drive - moving it to the master on its own IDE port sorted it out. You didn’t mention using one but I just thought I’d throw it out there.

I didn't know about inboard amp jumpers until I joined this forum either - louder was always better for me back in the day and my speakers were generally the biggest I could find in the local hard rubbish so I probably wouldn't have cared anyway 😵

Far Cry 1 for the first time, what a good looking game! Unfortunately per my ongoing habit I won't play it all the way through, instead will buy the next game that interests me just to check out the graphics and on and on it goes. Which is just as well because the game goes to complete shit halfway …
