Re: What game are you playing now?

Been playing a lot of DOOM and DOOM 2 and DOOM 2 WADS on a Pentium 100 with ct2230 and SC-55 MK1 and the music is mind blowing. Also playing DOOM 2 on one of my Pentium 60mhz computers with Pci Premier motherboard and Jazz 16 sound card. Using Novert Utility on both computers with mouse, pure DOS …

Re: Masters of DOOM

I got that book as soon as it came out in 2003. It is my favorite nonfiction work. Fucking awesome read. I can relate the the college students GPA's dropping and the computer labs at the universities being shut down and locked up at night because the dudes in there could be heard from the college …

Re: Story behind your avatar?

Mine is Pablo Martinez from Powerslide. From his character bio: "Now a grotesque, disfigured loner, shunned by corporate society, he is bitter and angry with the universe." Most of the time, I feel as miserable as he looks so it is a fitting image. My handle is from my obsession with spinning tires …

Re: Most annoying enemies in a game?

Yeah, I hated those Cliff Racers too. Once I got the Dwemer crossbow, I would happily knock them out of the sky. For me, I think the most annoying, temper tantrum inducing enemy was the stupid dog in Hover Bovver for commodore 64. When you are trying to finish a lawn and avoid the kids running …

Re: Show off your servers!

I have two Dell Poweredge 2800 servers with several SCSI hard drives that are wiped. I tried to put either Win2k or WinXP on them but don't know what to do when prompted to hit F6 install 3rd party SCSI drivers at the OS install screen. They also have weak CD-ROM drives and one floppy drive each. …

Re: Where were you when the world was DOOMed?

I found the shareware box, we brought it home and installed it and it wouldn't execute. WTF!!!! Our 486 had DR-DOS and DOOM needed MS-DOS. Huge disappointment, I was crestfallen and was unable to play. A few miserable days later my father came home with MS-DOS 6.22 and installed it. That's weird. …

Re: Where were you when the world was DOOMed?

Back in September of 1994 I was a miserable 14 year old boy in 9th grade. We had at home a Pionex 486-25sx with 4 megs ram and a Sound blaster CT2230. I can't remember all the games we had but they were few as we still played mostly consoles. I had seen and played Wolf3d back in 1992 but we never …

Re: Very interesting Doom playthrough with John Romero

I'm having to use novert when I play vanilla Doom in DOS or Win95 with the mouse. I play both Vanilla and Zdoom/GZDoom alot on several different computers. I use ZDoom to torture test later CPU's while viewing the frame rate. I need to get a Sound Canvas, I've only played with OPL these last 19 …

Re: Cute PC chassis

I'm partial to the Dell Optiplex GX1 desktop case (that's why I have 3 of them) http://az413224.vo.msecnd.net/img/22784/m_s_p_22784_1.jpg And the tower version isn't bad, either http://www.kaileypc.com/store/html/images/gx1-t_orig.jpg It's just a shame they're proprietary. I have several of those …
