.ini is just a text data file with CR separated values, has nothing to do with being a 'windows thing' or any OS, except for the fact that linux text files are CR+LF (or vice versa, never can remember which is which).

while the v5 is technically an agp 4x card, they more or less took shortcuts when making it so that it is only able to run as an agp 2x card, so that is what you must run them as and consider them. as for RDRAM, I say avoid it. I had an agp voodoo3 2000 and I definitely don't remember keen3 doing that to me... that almost looks like the analog VGA color signals aren't getting from the card to the monitor to me, though it doesn't seem to really be what's happening there.

also the battery is just to save settings for bios between power offs... if youre ok with entering info every time you cold boot, you don't even need the battery part.

it does autodetect but inside the game you can select roland, adlib/sb, and pc speaker for sound and something similar for music not including adlib.

just go for a sound blaster 16. they are much easier to find and perfect for dos computers on a budget, IMO.

I call it flip flopping discs. whether it's 20 fdds (or fdd images) or 5 cds (or isos) I just can't stand it either. I see zero reason for images in this day and age except for boot media. Try installing sims 2 plus expansions sometime if you feel rather masochistic... even from isos it's terrible …

Like I said earlier, I would just find a p4 compatible mobo from geeks.com or ebay which you can swap into the system and has agp or pcie. If you look you can find one for $20 shipped or so, and with agp or pcie your options broaden dramatically and so does the potential performance of the system.

the pci bus itself is a verybad chokepoint for that system. you would seriously do much better with an old pentium 3 agp computer.

The 5v to 12v rail shift isn't much of an issue, honestly, for the older systems because even a dual p3 tualatin rig won't take over 120w from the 5v rail, and dual p3 1ghz coppermines are right at 100w. Any single cpu system of the 5v rail era unless you use a massive array of old SCSI drives will …

Does no one else realize what a bandwidth limiting factor PCI is for gaming on a system? Why do you think they invented/developed AGP in the first place?
