Sounds hairy, max vcore for 1.0GHz Coppermines is 1.74~1.79 V. I'd better get another mobo with VRM 8.4 that can work with lower voltages.

From the pic the base of that heatsink doesn't look perfectly flat, which is important for good heat exchange. I'd check for flatness and lap the heatsink, then put some fresh decent thermal paste.

To my knowledge Intel and OCZ have tools for enterprise SSDs with command line interface, but I'm not sure if they'd work on mundane client SSDs.
