I know cheap for me is different than cheap for someone else 😉 I think my mistake was to assume we were talking about the average gaming pc. Which would ofcourse not make use of a crappy Intel IGP.

Can anybody tell me what the difference is between a Matrox Impression and an Impression Plus? Is it just the RAMDAC and maximum supported memory or is there more? And am I correct in assuming they are both multi-chip cards? (like the Voodoo Graphics/Rush/II)

As I've read it (a while ago I'll admit) game-companies focused on hardware vertex shading which caused problems with the Xabres and many games required patching. I don't know if that was one of those exaggerations that often come by on the internet though.

The problem with the Xabre's is that they do Vertex stuff in software mode. I wonder how they perform in DirectX 7 games though.

From wikipedia; The AMD K6-2 (stepping 8 and above) and K6-III processors have two MTRRs. The AMD Athlon family provide 8 Intel-style MTRRs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_Type_Range_Registers That might explain why the Athlon does so much better (8 MTRR's vs. 2 MTRR's).
