Re: Interplay - sound driver hacking

in DOS
the patched .HOG has patched midis? and so it tells the game to play FL. Keyclick at a variation tone position Right - patched .HOG has patched MIDI. Old = plays BANK 00, Fl. Key Click (non-GM) / Breath Noise (GM) New = plays BANK 01, Fl. Key Click The part I'm confused about is something that …

Re: Interplay - sound driver hacking

Don't have a clue yet why the driver fails. But I agree xdelta would be safer method. the older sc-55 plays nothing If I understand correctly, non-GM SC-55 should play Descent I+II Fl. Key Click using stock HOG. So if your 2 units play correctly with stock HOG but only 1 fails using Tikalat HOG, …

Re: Interplay - sound driver hacking

Bummer. I'm using Descent CD 1.0 + Descent 2 CD 1.2. No expansions or such. If the HMIMDRV.386 fix by itself works, then it must be the HOG MIDI fix. I'd have to use a xdelta patcher in that case to cover any different versions. - Descent.hog = 265609F4 (CRC32) - Descent2.hog = 2A84C1A3 (CRC32)

So far I've checked - Blood = probably Breath Noise (note held on for some time; it's just 1 use near the start) - Duke Nukem 3D / Atomic = should be fixed - Hi-Octane = no - Hocus Pocus = no - Rise of the Triad = no - Shadow Warrior = no Going to work on Doom MUS analysis tool.

Fixed an error I made with Descent 1 only - Saw (01) --> Saw Wave (00). Updated pack. Also noticed that Blackthorne uses Fl. Key Click for "drip" sfx. Going to fix that too.

Did a quick dry test run and Descent I + II now use Fl. Key Clicks Re: Interplay - sound driver hacking Note to self: Update GM enhancement thread to document SC-55 non-GM fixes.

@keropi Sorry - been away a long time and not following up with PMs, board messages. Incredible amount of busy work, projects. I think I had Descent I+II hacked up awhile ago but not tested at all - could be crash-worthy. Will try to get on this soon'ish. Or just release and have someone else test. …

Here's Descent II - Game03.mid from here: http://www.planetdescent.net/index.php?action … tpmod;dl=item56 1:05 is where Breath Noise vs Fl. Keyclick fight happens. Note stereo pan effect.

Re: Apogee / 3D Realms - sound driver hacking

VSC (GS or GM2 only) just plays last instrument in either mode so far when that instrument doesn't exist. I get all sorts of funny noises in bad tracks. :) Doom switching to GM1 auto-bumps VSC to GM2. I thought CTF = Capital Tone Fallback? As in Xeen games - when you play a melodic instrument …

Re: Sierra/Dynamix sound driver hacking

Normally when you open a SND file in SCI Viewer, it gives you the option to select each track. Just pick the ones you want and Save As. I forget if it includes the GM, MT-32 patch settings though. Dummy - didn't know Rama is Dosbox compatible. :) So far (just a guess).. Sierra used to use double- …

Try this tool: http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=35933#p310575 It's updated and has more file support. But not Al & Sid. You might be able to rig it to dump editing one of the other ones. Otherwise sounds like you did it right - put files with extractor and run correct batch file. Once you …

Another in favor of clicks for Descent. It gives a sharp, wood percussion feel that does an awesome job setting you up for the next segment of some type of '''techno funk'''. Plus it keeps constantly panning left-right-left. Really enjoyed that clip, but wonder how it feels in-game? Breath noise has …

Re: Apogee / 3D Realms - sound driver hacking

Just to clarify this, since I think you understood it a bit wrong: there are SC-55 units with a GM logo as well, which behave identical to a mkII in this case ;) Yeow! Thanks - didn't know that. Will update faulty documentation. :) In that case........ it would be harder to tell who used what unit …

Duke Nukem 3D updated: - THECALL + SPOOK - use Flute Key Click (BANK 01) on mkII devices or better. - New patcher that works on multiple Duke3D exe http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=36087&p=312567#p312567 Would you theorize that all of those games were composed for the non-GM SC-55, then? …

Re: To the Roland guys: SC88 or SC55mkII?

in Milliways
To me, Yamaha doesn't ''blend'' instruments in ways that are appealing to me. They have too much kick or power or cacophony and it sends my head in a disharmonic spin. Roland is '''weaker''' instrument quality in terms of '''natural''' but they mix okay without distracting - safer and somewhat less …

Re: Apogee / 3D Realms - sound driver hacking

Trying to get all caught up. Do you think this patch could be updated to ensure that Fl. Keyclick is automatically selected instead of Breath Noise for those Roland devices (anything after the early SC-55s) for those songs that use the Fl. Keyclick sample? So 'Breath Noise' is being used in Duke3D …
