Well if you are just wanting something that works then go ahead with the 6600gt and mod a 1U copper server cooler for passive. You can use nvflash to get the rom from the card and use nbitor to edit the clocks that you want then flash the card. If you can live with the noise and spare two molex …

Chances are that it will work but I can't say how stable it will be but you can always do the wire mod. The pins are just iron with HGE 14k plate so a piece of cooper wire in the socket to bridge the loss of the pin.

Got the old itch again (worse than poison oak or ivy) and bought a GT 430 as a dedicated physx card. Can't wait to get modding once it comes in the mail 😀

If you are able to get some good heatsinks that are thin enough but fairly large you could mode on onto a higher end card to help keep things single slot and passive but you have to be able to mod the cooler including cutting if needed. Did the boards have any hot spots? If not there is little you can do unless you had spare mosfets and the tools needed for the repair job. Could be a cold joint or a short.

Just try to standardize things a little, a 6200 should be good enough for almost all things vintage and light use on the modern side. For raw bragging rights then dig up a gt520 or a 9500gt pci then mod for passive cooling. As for agp I still vote for the 6200.

For dos gaming on 386 on up through to slot 1 era boards you should always go ISA for sound, for the cards you used you need a board that support SB link and a cable. It is always best to have a small collection of isa sound cards on hand in case things don't work the first or second time around. Can you upload a pic by chance of your card? Try Hexen and see if it works or not.
