second, is this patch included in dosbox 0.65? no you have to patch it into the source and compile Dosbox yourself with it.

there is no difference for Dosbox on either Windows 2000, ME or XP. Dosbox uses its own configuration file (read the README that comes with Dosbox) and doesn't rely on autoexec.bat or config.sys

you are not supposed to copy them to the save0 folder, but to save1,2,3 or 4 and then journey onward from that one. This way I was able to load the game and it did indeed freeze on me.

Trying that version of Dosbox doesn't hurt and it might fix your problem. That should actually go hand in hand with option 3 and setting cycles to auto. instead the issue here is why we really need these sound options when no other application or game needs them. I don't get that. The option is …

All the video-drivers gives me something like "incorrect gfx type.." then just use the s3 drivers with the 0.65 release. For the other drivers you need a binary snapshot of dosbox WITH the SVGA patch AND you need to select a different card in dosbox.conf.

you have to get a special build for that, check the link with the snapshot binaries and there get one that has the SVGA patch in. AFAIR all these come with a dosbox.conf. When you open that with notepad you will see where to change this.

yeah, the hosting of the drivers is a problem no one seems to want to solve. I contacted Snover some time ago, whether it is ok to attach them to the topic, but he never replied. A permanent solution like Sourceforge would be best.
