It's not extremely retro, but I just bought a working Core2Quad system with 6GB of DDR2 and a 650GB HD for $24 at a thrift store.

When I took Computer Science there was another class that took Basic called Computer Math and I used the network (Novell?) communication program to send people messages in the Basic class that said "Fatal System Error, press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to continue." A lot of the sites I've seen say the lite version of the software synth was the S-YXG20. Was there a regular version and a lite version of the S-YGX50? My YMF719 card is an Xwave 128 and the certificate that came with it just says S-YXG50 ver 2.0. The YMF724 could be an interesting option too, but …

I could play around with the software one a bit to see how I like it. I think a version came with my YMF719 card. What's the minimum system requirements for a good steady playback? It would probably be on Win98.

I just mean that now that absolutely everything is considered rare, baseline prices (that I've seen) for a lot of things like this seem to be $100. In my mind if I'm spending $100 I might as well spend $200-$300. Plus I haven't seen very many MU-10s on ebay. I've been working my way over to Amibay …

I was looking at the MU-10. That's where temptation kind of takes over. It justs seems like if I get an MU-10 I might as well get an MU-80 and if I get an MU-80 I might as well get an MU-2000. 😀

The more I look at it the more it looks like an adapter board for someone trying to make a standalone XG box. I've passed up a lot of cheap opportunities (doublefish/garfield) and now these things seem to be hard to find. I guess I'll have to resort to begging on Amibay. Sorry for the wasted post.

I saw this board the other day and was wondering if it was really a blank DB50XG. If it is how expensive would it be to populate? Eurocircuits DB50XG?

I guess it wouldn't be worth it. I just got a CT1350, but I haven't been keeping up with the newest chip upgrade information/limitations. The sad thing is that I had the 1st Sound Blaster and SB Pro in their boxes up until I gave them to Goodwill seven years ago.

If you had a SBPro with with a CT1336 and a SB 2.0 with a CT1336A would it be possible to swap the 1336 chips and still have two fully functional cards?

I found a model M at a local thrift store last week, but I never see the monitors. With all the original IBM parts it looked like a really solid system. I remember on my 386 I always had to delete something to install a new game and that was on a 100MB. 20MB would be a real challenge.

I was recently given a set of these that had been well-preserved in a closet since the late 90s. They've been my go to retro speakers ever since. I would have gone with a restoration myself, but I still like biege for old stuff...

I was first introduced to several DOS games on my friend's PS/2 386. Police Quest 3, Willy Beamish, Star Trek 25th Anniv., etc. I'm pretty sure some of my earlier BBS memories were on that system. There was also an after school group that got together and played Space Quest 1-3 and KQ 1-4 on PS/2s. …
