I know from experience someone on ebay i used to buy parts for work from india used skrill also for payments. Do not worry to much about it, and sometimes you have to take a risk, and 35dollar is doable.

I am not sure what program would be capable to read it out from the pc or in win98. I was hoping some has a eeprom burner to read out the eeprom. I have one, and reading it as a 27c512 or 27c256 or maybe even 27c128 would succeed in reading all the data stored in the eprom. Which i need, the roms …

You probably need 1mbit eprom, the 512's hold only 64kb of bios data. Probably not enough for 486 boards.

Yes cold makes the caps go worse. Seems like caps and or bad psu filtering, should also take apart the psu and check for bulging caps on the end filter or replace. most pci and agp cards take the 3,3v for powering the memory chips straight from the bus 3.3v power. If it is noisy / filthy it can …

you can probably check for bad caps with the hair blowdrier. when heated up bad caps could regain some function. you say after cold boot there is problems. maybe you can find the bad ones with the hair drier.

I do not really believe in bit rot, i believe the eproms data would last a life time. The exposure glass labels are also intact, but still both boot fine, it is only some graphic modes but not witl all games give some corruptec stripes with the older bios eprom. ive build that 60GXP for games in my p1 machine and runs ok. The only problem that could occur is that the contacts from controller to the harddrive for the head r/w and movements get corroded and the disk feeds itself clicking when powering on and causing sector corruption. Indeed i doubt that ET4000 would work with EDO. Cant you source any FPM SOJ 512KB chips on ebay or whatever? You could use the ISA cards NEC ram, thats FPM. Faster than 60ns is mostly of the time EDO ram.
