Sounds like a conflicting irq that blocks the data transfer.

i never had that 16gb ram problem on a ss7. they do get rare, they get scrapped. seems like we are the last ones in the world to still like older machines, and be able to provide a home to them. its not like we still own only one or two pc computers anymore. time is catching us an too much hardware …

50 euros with the soundcards included sounds reasonable to me, depending on how much shipping is. maybe still a little on the high side.

Ditching the IRQ for the VGA will slow it down in use for fast vga graphics though.

you could repair it but it takes a lot of time and de-soldering and measuring. do you have a multimeter? and solder iron, and a other dead psu for parts? ditching would be a good option or lay it to the side for later. do you have any other good at supply?

sparks shouldnt occur. maybe the diode bridge or some capacitors broken. what a sucky psu if it cant cope with some higher current. get a 250w atx supply and remove the atx wiring and put the at wires in.

i saw that artifact sys was selling an harris 286-25 only cpu. i was interested to have a second one but i hesitated to long. aah well i already own one, and a 20mhz version. i can confirm that the 25 is faster than a 386sx16

psu should last. put cache back in proper position, if they run hot you know there dead. or if ram errors occur.

Broken, picture please. Also if any of both would fail you have only the standard 512KB memory, as the 30pin simms are 8bit width and cpu needs 16bits at the time i would reckon.

I thought that 3dfx in dos needed the package from windows to be installed, and needed some , OVL file to load the 3dfx.dll? i am not sure. Probably it would work if you just had installed win9x, maybe interesting to install maybe you can need it for networking and moving files.
